About Me

Hi, I'm Sophie.

I'm originally from the UK but now I live and work as a teacher in South Korea. Previously my travels have included living and working as an Au Pair in Melbourne, backpacking solo through Southeast Asia and several trips to Europe.

In my spare time I'm usually studying Korean, going to a language exchange or swimming at my local pool. I enjoy seeking out the quirkiest restaurants, bars and coffee shops - Daegu has quite a few. Sometimes I am taking a walk somewhere nice, or I'm just relaxing at home and cooking up something tasty. I love to cook.

I'd describe myself as an introverted person, chilled out and easy-going.

I also enjoy writing and taking photos, you can see my work here: www.theorigamiboat.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to help people out and make them feel welcome in South Korea.

And when I'm travelling I'd like to become less of a tourist and get to know local people more by surfing with them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Well, I love to read anything that delves deep into the hearts of it's characters. I don't care so much about the plot if the characters are incredibly complex and intriguing. Books like The Goldfinch or 1984 are up my street.

Music wise, I'm mainly hung up on indie bands, singer-songwriters and of course a bit of K-pop. Being from Manchester, I am a huge fan of The Smiths.

Movies I like are usually the ones that tell a real life story. Films like Control or Captain Phillips.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scuba diving with whale sharks is pretty high on my list of amazing life experiences....but actually the most amazing thing I've done personally is training for and running 10km and raising over £600 for a charity close to my heart.
