About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Being an OT, and thinking about where I'd like to go next...

ABOUT ME

people call me 'Soph' - I'm a friendly, sociable person and generally get along with anyone. I'm pretty independent but at the same time I love to be around other people and tend to surround myself with friends and family. I like to make the most of things and will pretty much have a bash at anything. A few years ago I had my first stint at backpacking and went to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos on my own. Although I love travelling, it's not the be-all-and-end-all for me, I recently qualified as an Occupational Therapist, and I work with people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. I love my job, and I hope someday I can combine the two and maybe work abroad or find out more about this kind of work in other countries...

PHILOSOPHY
Life is what you make it

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Looking for couches when travelling and meeting new people. When I get my own place I would love to host here in the UK!!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first found out about couch-surfing while travelling in Thailand, and have done it a couple of times now. I think it's a great idea!! My best experience was in Sulawesi in Indonesia, I met the nicest people including Tina who I became great friends with. Also when I met Amelie, another couchsurfer in Thailand and we ended up travelling on together. It's great when you meet people that you really click with and have a lot of laughs!

Interests

I am a very social person and love being around people and meeting new people. Also learning about different cultures and ways of life, for me that's one of the best things about travelling.

I also love comedy / stand-up comedy and generally anything that makes me laugh!

I love festivals, such as Glastonbury here in the UK, I'm going for the third time this year. The atmosphere is fantastic, everyone talks as if they've known each other for ages, and wearing a giraffe one-sie with neon face-paint is totally normal.

Learning disabilities and mental health

I'm learning Makaton - hand signs and symbols to support communication
