About Me

My current mission? Survive my twenties.

Just about to finish my first year as a French with English student at King's College London. Last year, I took a sabbatical to travel and caught the travel bug, so now I'm cursed with a relentless desire to keep on going and keep on seeing. Could be worse.

MY PHILOSOPHY
When I moved to London in 2014, I went through such a profound personal transformation that a lot of people don't even recognize me from when I was a kid. The whirlwind that London is has awoken a real desire to learn and see and just do! Studying at King's has opened my eyes to the point of them being on the verge of popping out. My course in French and English taught me a lot about existentialism and what it is to just 'be', and how scary the concept of just 'being' actually is. I feel like I've started to apply that to my life in general now. How important it is to make the most of every little moment, to pass the time YOURSELF by being the person YOU want to be, rather than letting time pass you by instead.

Also, I'm not a feminist, I'm a humanist. I don't like the negative connotations that come with feminism anymore. It's not about man-hating or trying to be better than another, it's about EQUALITY. And gender isn't even natural. Gender is a social concept, it's what we wear and how we walk, not an instinct. LOVE everybody and treat everybody with RESPECT! Life is way too short for hate and negativity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Aside from the obvious point that I'm a student which means I can't afford anything else, I'm actually really excited to meet new people and share a few precious moments with them. Isn't that what life's about? I like feeling like I'm a part of something BIGGER. I want to reach out and make contacts and have friends across the globe. I think the world is actually a lot smaller than we think it is and people aren't as dissimilar as we all like to believe ❤️

Interests

People. I love people! I love finding out what makes people tick. I love seeing how people respond to different situations. People-watching is great, sat back in a cafe with a good coffee, just admiring LIFE as it walks by.

Art and design. I could spend hours in a gallery. When I was 18 I was already working professionally as a freelance designer doing murals for businesses around South Yorkshire in England. Doing my degree has meant I have less time to pursue this now, but was such an incredible experience!

Music! My dad is a musician. Unfortunately I can't play anything, but I can sing. Growing up in a house full of music was the best thing ever. I love going to gigs, especially little intimate ones where you can sit back and actually respect the lyrics and the artist without everyone talking over them. I love a bit of karaoke, and if you can play an instrument, having a little jam at home or in a quiet place is so lovely and uplifting. I also did all the musical productions at school. My favourite was Guys and Dolls. I was Sarah Brown, and I know it was just a school production, but that role, when I was 17, changed my life.

Food, especially breakfast food 😁 I used to hate cooking but since moving to london, cooking is one of my favourite pastimes. I love experimenting and trying out different recipes. I also LOVE being surprised. Favourite foods... Hmm, I can't remember a day that I haven't eaten a banana. I have a deep love for avocados too ❤️❤️❤️

Culture! I was so lucky to have been able to travel with my dad as a child. He worked abroad a lot so we would go with him, but we also have family with posts in Australia, the Philippines, France.... All opportunities for some serious exploring and eye opening.

I interailed with one of my best friends last year for a month around Europe. Totally recommend this as a mode of travel!!! I was an au pair in Paris too for three months 🙋

Family ❤️you can't chose them, so love them for who they are. My family is completely wacko and I often think I'm not related to them. But they do provide great entertainment (and drama). They are definitely a..... Character building sort of people haha!

Music, Movies, and Books

As a literature student, trying to answer what my favourite book is is one of the hardest questions. I have a bad habit of putting a book down after the first few pages if it doesn't engage with me. That's not to say I have a restricted taste, I love all genres! Movie wise? Well, I adore anything superhero related. Music? Anything and everything. Except maybe the head-banging stuff, that I'll leave to the extremists. I love seeing live music! Especially jazz sessions!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived 20 years as a human being.

Teach, Learn, Share

Nothing helps me to learn more than teaching other people. I adore people who are passionate about what they do. I'm enchanted by those who can sit and talk about their job or degree or whatever interests them with pride. If you're passionate about anything, even if it's something I don't really care about, I can listen to you talk for hours.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My smile, I think it's my most prominent feature. It represents my openness and my determination to keep going in the face of anything.
