About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet like-minded people around the world and have unique experiences with them!

ABOUT ME

Hi! I am a backpacker and globe-trotter thrilled that the world has reopened as Covid is getting better. I did a lot of traveling in my twenties when I worked as a street musician and went “on tour” abroad when I could. I also spent those years as a seasonal restaurant worker and substitute teacher so I had a lot of flexibility to travel when I saved up enough money.

After getting a masters and working a “real job“ for four years I am excited to be returning to my roots of flexible work in order to have freedom to travel. Although I am no longer busking very often, I have returned to substitute teaching and also work as an “extra “in movies!

In my free time, I sing in a chorus, play melodica, accordion, or saxophone in a giant funky brass band, and enjoy nature, particularly hiking and swimming. I am an avid geocacher too!

I love children! I work with them and would be thrilled to meet yours. I also love cats. I no longer drink alcohol and don’t do drugs, nor do I smoke. I’m an experienced couch surfer and I’m so glad we can do it again! I can’t host at the moment in my current place but I’ll be moving soon and I’m hopeful that I will be able to.

I can also recite 200 digits of pi, sing all of the elements, and solve a Rubik's cube in under two minutes! (EDIT: that bit is left over from my old profile from about 10 years ago. I’m definitely rusty on the pi and often screw up the Rubiks cube halfway through but I can salvage it!)

PHILOSOPHY

There's plenty of time to settle into "real life," take advantage of opportunities for adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At this point I'm only a surfer. I'm constantly on the move, and I haven't been settled enough somewhere to offer my couch to fellow surfers yet. Once I'm able I will make up for these years and host so many people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed for the first time in North Carolina, USA, in 2011. I spent 2012 abroad in Scotland and went on two big Europe trips, surfing in England, France, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Denmark. I have fired up the app on other trips in the years since then before Covid hit.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies that include....jokes, escapes, disasters (especially in outer space), singing, slapstick, schemes, twists, and adventures. I don't like really stupid movies or poorly-written or acted romantic comedies. (EDIT: apparently I was pretty snobby in my old profile. I actually love stupid movies.)

I love traveling because I read so much more! Thrillers, humor, beautiful human stories, whatever. I’m making my way through the Fredrik Backman books and I adore them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An amazing thing I did was camp out on Greek islands with my best friends after studying abroad in Spain. It was truly an amazing and memorable experience, even though/especially because I broke my arm.

Also snorkeling and scuba diving for the first time, in Eilat, Israel on the Red Sea, was totally life-changing. I want to do more diving, for sure!

Teach, Learn, Share

I will take you geocaching! I'd like to juggle and tap dance. We can speak English or Spanish!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, an eagerness to see your favorite parts of the city, chores around the house. I will also be very encouraging about sun safety: I survived melanoma (skin cancer) in 2021 and I’m now aware of just how dangerous UV rays are. My fashion has taken a hit with my big hat and sun sleeves but it’s an important cause and I would love to teach you more about it!
