About Me

Trying to finish my dissertation without going too crazy is my current mission in life.
I am a pacifist/activist, leftie leaning, greenie. I graduated in languages and have worked for a peace organisation, in community arts and in logistics and emergency services.
A couple of years ago I fulfilled my lifelong dream of travelling to South America, where I first started couch surfing. I hitched around the continent for 18 months, doing voluntary work on organic farms & eco-building projects, working in an animal resuce centre, teaching English in a remote rainforest community and doing post earthquake cleanup & rebuilding ork after the 7.9 earthquake in Pisco, Peru).
I love getting to know new people & places. I'm a vegetarian, trying to be vegan. Other than travel, I love music, films, meditating, photography, getting out into the countryside. I also love finding out about history and pre-history, especially in the form of standing stones, megaliths and other sacred places.

PHILOSOPHY

Fulfil your dreams. Do no harm.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host when I can, just not at the moment as my currrent communal living situation doesn't allow.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In South America I Couchsurfed in Lethem (Guyana), Boa Vista (Brasil), Isla Margarita (Venezuela), Caracas (Venezuela), Bogota (Columbia), Quito (Ecuador), Lima (Peru) and Cusco (Peru). I met some amazing people who I am in touch with nearly a decade later.
I have hosted people from Turkey, Estonia, Norway, Germany, Hungary, Malaysia and loved every second of it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hang-gliding... to cure my fear of heights,
Snorkelling in the Galapagos,
Climbing volcanoes in Ecuador,
Hitching through the Gran Sabana,
Horse trekking to unexplored ruined cities in the jungles of northern Peru,
Working on an organic farm on the side of a volcano in Ecuador,
Looking after lions, bears and monkies in an animal rescue centre,
Hanging my hammock between 2 palm trees on the beach in Venezuela,
Crawling about in tunnels inside pre-Incan pyramid temples and being driven through the deserts in search of lost cities in a jeep in Peru.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught computer skills to older people and have a TEFL qualification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I am also fluent in Spanish and German so can teach you some phrases. I know the basics of making stained glass windows and I'm a good vegetarian/vegan cook.
