About Me

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Bombay, India. Now I live in the USA and make my living as a singer and actor. I doubt whether you'll recognize me from my tiny appearances on "30 Rock", "Law & Order" or "Madame Secretary"...most of my work is in the theater both in plays and musicals. I also do a lot of concerts as a singer with professional choruses in the NYC area.

I live to travel. Don't like hotels unless I'm traveling for work. When I'm exploring a country I much rather be in a hostel or a home.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind to each other; love your fellow human-beings and animals and this planet we live on. And see this planet, quickly, before mankind screws it all up!

As a performing artist my mission is to "entertain and enlighten" sometimes one can do only one at a time...but sometimes, hopefully we can do both at the same time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm in my home in Sheffield, MA I love to host. I can occasionally host in NYC as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Iceland a few years ago...and am looking to surf in Europe this summer (2018).

I used to be a member of SERVAS (think CouchSurfing but in the pre-internet age where we had to write letters and plan our trips months in advance) in the 1990s and did a lot of traveling in Europe. I'm thrilled to be a part of CouchSurfing now and looking forward to meeting new people and seeing new places.

While traveling with SERVAS I've stayed on a farm in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, a castle in Spain, and many interesting places and met some wonderful people. I am still in touch with some of them 25 years later.

Interests

Photography (would love to study it), Art, Architecture, Pottery, Knitting, Farming/Gardening, Animal Husbandry (though I have NO experience in this...yet!)

Languages. I can get by in Italian, German, French, Hindi/Urdu and Gujerati. Began studying Spanish in Guatemala in 2014. Would love to learn Russian and Arabic.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love the writing of Vikram Seth ("Golden Gate", "An Equal Music" etc) and Rohinton Mistry ("A Fine Balance")...both writers born in India.

Recently read and enjoyed, Hitchens' "God Is Not Great" and David Eagleman's "Incognito" which is a book about how our brains work...FASCINATING!

Music...I listen to everything from Medieval European music to the Renaissance and Baroque masters up to today's pop and Top 40 hits. I have a particular fondness for pop music in languages I don't understand...Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Slovenian etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

ONE?!? I've been alive for 45 years...here are some that stand out:

My first time performing on any famous stage is always fun...London's Royal Albert Hall, NYC's Carnegie Hall and Metropolitan Opera House...these stand out.

Sunrise over Bryce Canyon in Utah with my mother...shivering our assess off as we are STUNNED by the vision.

Holding a six-month old panda cub in China! That's got to be one of the funnest animal moments I've had.

Hiking in Denali National Park in Alaska...heaven on earth.

Seeing the Milky Way for the first time on a dark, cloudless night in Arizona in the middle of nowhere...took my breath away.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to sing Happy Birthday in several languages.

Can teach you how to cook basic Indian food...daals, curries, veggies.

Love teaching people how to knit...one of my favorite hobbies.

Need help with your piano or vocal technique? I've got Masters Degrees in both of them and would be happy to help you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My cleaning skills. I like to wash and clean...especially for other people! Don't know why it's more fun to wash someone else's dirty dishes than my own. I'll be happy to help clean your house, your bathroom, your kitchen. You supply the cleaning products...I'll get down on my hands and knees and CLEAN!

My cooking.

My humor.
