About Me

👋 Hello!

This is Soramee. I’m from Cambodia and I’m doing my MBA in Turkey. Currently, I’m living in Annecy, France for my one semester Erasmus+ exchange program.

I discovered Couchsurfing 5 years ago when I was backpacking across the Mediterranean part of Turkey with a friend. I loved how this app connected me with amazing people who were filled with adventure and had fascinating stories to share. But all of sudden, I felt like people abandoned this app roughly a year before the pandemic. Now, I’m hoping to see this adventure spirit happening again!

Since I’ve been living abroad as a student, I’m not able to host much. But I’d be very happy to host when I’m on my summer vacation in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I might be also able to be your cycling buddy around the ancient city of Angkor.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Personally, I have met many amazing people on Couchsurfing. It's kinda like a platform where I learn a lots about other sides of people: inspiring, unique, surprising, crazy experiences and after all: a hidden side that we don't normally see. It's more than just what school, workplace and mainstream media show us. And when I'm traveling to a certain place in the world that's what I'm always looking for. So, in return I also hope to contribute back to travelers who happen to come across my city, Siem Reap (Angkor Wat), Cambodia.

To me, meeting new people is like reading a new book. At some point we happen to read the same chapter. Everyone has their own unique experiences and inspiring stories behind which leads making new friends even more exciting. There are always something we can learn from each other. Nevertheless, I also believe interacting with local people is the best way to learn about one’s culture and one’s country.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I’m into the classic, country and the pop ones.

For movies, I love Animation (a big fan of Studio Ghibli), Adventure, Documentary, and Dystopian Genre. So far my favorite movies are: Spirited Aways, Avatar: the Last Air Bender and Snow Piecer, The Hunger Game and etc.

For books, I love literature, science fiction, adventure, self-development, cosmic, fantasy, earth science and geography. Some highlight: The journey to central Indochine by Henry Mouhot, What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20, Rich Kid Smart Kid, and those books about ancient civilizations.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my best lifetime experiences is being a member of Young Eco Ambassador Cambodia (YEA) in November 2015, which was a project focusing on environmental awareness raising, climate change and sustainable life style.

The project contained 8 main groups, such as: Water, Wildlife, Forest, Plastic, Food, Energy, Transportation and Materialism. My team and I worked for wildlife conservation.

During the whole year, we conducted various campaigns, workshops, trainings and forest visits. We also went to camping, hiking and trekking in the tropical jungles, where leeches & mosquitoes would suck our blood and snakes would pop up from somewhere. At night, we camped under millions of stars, sat around campfire, stargazed and had a deep conversation about the universe, being an adult and society dilemmas. We would swim in the river, waterfall and walk under rainstorm. I couldn't believe how I met those inspiring, open minded, lively spirit and hippie people all in one place after a depressing year at my university. It was a big life changing experience for me :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m more like a right side brainer. So, basically I’m not good at number, calculation, mathematics and those complicated stuffs (at least to me) hahaha. However, I do like everything with letters and imagination. I’m learning and doing watercolor painting, photography and sketching. I’m really happy to share everything I have and learn from you more!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook some Asian foods, listen to your stories, hangout and may be show you around if you happen to come across my city.
