Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy hosting people with common interest or the ones who strike me by doing something amazing that I have no idea of, I go to meetings and I try to meet people when I travel or I have some work abroad, even if I have just a couple of hours free. I also try to reinforce the basic values of the CS community, that lately seem to be forgotten.

Each CS experience is teaching me more and more things about human beings and about this community and its values. I became more and more appreciative for finding it and more motivated to support its development. It's important to make clear what we are standing for, and to show the beauty of real human relationships. In a world where are more and more fences and walls between us, what can be more beautiful than people who are opening their homes for somebody who they never met before?

I became more selective about who I welcome in my home, after a very negative experience with the CS member called Miss Audrey, who thought it's ok to try to harass and bully a host after critical/negative reference after their stay. Seeing the the CouchSurfing team is actually not so well prepared in handling problems with guests, I ended up making a complaint to the police and to the embassy of her country.
That also resulted in my current approach of not hosting people who don't have any form of verification on CS (address, payment, etc.) and a few references on their profile speaking positively about who they are. This should not be too much of a challenge for a good community member, as there are always meetings where newbies can meet other CSurfers.
