Overview
About Me
I am a college graduate majoring in English. I work as a English teacher and Tutor.
Leaving my professional work aside, I like traveling and trekking, and tend to make friends with almost everybody with casual ease, age no bar :)
I really like like cooking and was very interested in photography once upon a time, although i don't get much opportunity these days.
I play the flute, and also dabble with a keyboard and harmonica once in a while, since i have these instruments in my room, along with a guitar(which i learnt playing as a kid).
I like staying sociable and amiable, and tend to be a good host to my friends(unless I'm famished and distressed)
I like sharing all sorts of anecdotes and simple DIY solutions with people, and take advises with an open mind.
I am an avid gardener and grow all sorts of fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants in my terrace gardens.
I am very interested in Ayurveda and Yoga(not just the physical practices but the psychological, psycho-somatic, spiritual and meditative approach towards holistic Yoga, how it is meant to be; complete incorporation until 1). I am trained in Vipassana meditation, but i am open towards all kinds of meditation techniques, since the goal remains the same.
I am also pretty interested in astronomy and astrology, and often take my spare time out to marvel about the wonders of cosmos; and how the old knowledge of different cultures and the new, all tend to intersect and merge until it all integrates in our experiential perspective.
I have two puppers, Nihar and Bhoubhou, and i still live with my parents. :|
I am ardent believer in organic growing and permaculture, and dream about building a farm up in the hills someday soon. And I am saving up for an equatorial telescope. Oh! I definitely like reading and watching movies a lot (basics last :P). I also collect and wear gems.
What motivates me as a language teacher is the sheer flexibility and the vastness of source. Absolutely anything,be it short anecdotes or biographies, anything, when told simply and engagingly, helps in building language skills, vocabulary and communicative proficiency; slowly breaking the ice commonly experienced in the form of fear and shyness in speaking out and expressing freely while learning a new language. Also helps in breaking the monotony of syllabus based learning. It makes interactions so much more interesting and fun, helping young learners pick up the language much faster and with ready enthusiasm, which glows on their face.
I enjoy watching people slowly pick up simple tricks and styles to polish their linguistic skills, which makes me enthusiastic, thinking that someday long after I’d be gone from their lives, they’d still remember what they learnt and use it for infinite new purposes, to communicate and share thoughts, ideas and emotions; relating and uniting with people from different cultures, in various lands. This alone, simply put, keeps me going.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like traveling a lot and traveled extensively across various and diverse Indian terrains.
But I haven't ventured out of my country yet, but plan to start pretty soon.
I'd like to host people from any place, and age or gender, religion and beliefs are no bar. I hope I can give my guests good suggestions about places to visit next and help them chalk out their plan further, and show around my city. I'd love it if they return the goodwill when I visit their country in the future. :D
