Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing an action when there is so much talk of the internet as a global connector. So many of us tout the web as a way of connecting with people from around the globe but get silo'd off into our own insular online communities. By participating in Couchsurfing we actively practice an important internet philosophy.

Interests

Playing music with large groups of people. Wandering around cities. Talking about architecture as if I know anything about architecture. Dancing, really getting into movement of the body to rhythm. Cooking food and eating with large talkative groups of people. Words, in every language.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently reading Infinite Jest. The top books on my reading list are Ulysses, Godel Escher Bach, Understanding Power, Ficciones, and the Philosophy of Liberation.

I'm a big fan of Italo Calvino. The most recent book I've completed is Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Top films of the past year: The Institute, The Imposter, Ex Machina, Amores Perros, and Biutiful.

My music tastes cover all genres but can be very particular within genres.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For the past year I helped lead the largest student housing cooperative in the world. The Berkeley Student Cooperative houses 1300 students. It is owned and governed democratically by it's members, who are all students. The year before last I managed one of the households in the organization which housed 124 members.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach musical instruments, if you want to play guitar, piano, harmonica, or trumpet I can get you started. I can explain how much of a computer works.

I'm very interested in learning foreign languages, clarinet and saxophone, how to salsa dance.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you need help in the kitchen I consider myself a technically apt chef with tastebuds for detail. I also quite enjoy washing dishes. I'm an able bodied youth and am willing to help with moving of large items.
