About Me

CURRENT MISSION

It had been all 7 continents by the age of 30... now it's just eventually! Who wants to go to Antarctica?

ABOUT ME

I was born in Rochester, NY, on the coldest night on Earth. It was in November, 1983, the same month the Smiths released "This Charming Man." Foreshadowing is my favorite literary element... except for hyperbole, which is like the greatest literary element in the HISTORY OF THE PLANET. EVER.

If I wrote an autobiography, it would be called "Existentialism on the Beach". I was asked that in a job interview once. Unfortunately, I can't write. This "all about you" section is being dictated.

PHILOSOPHY

If nice guys finish last, then last place is a nice place to be.

"It's amazing what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit." - My grandfather used to say that. Objectively speaking, he was the smartest man of the 20th Century.

-the journey is the destination-

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a couch. Perhaps you would like to surf it. I also have a guest bedroom. The guest bed cost more than my bed did, but I went for it, because I'm always looking out for people. Furthermore, I have a back yard in which I never go camping, but could in theory.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My lease on my apartment senior year of college was up at the end of August, but I graduated in December. I'm 6'4" (193cm for non-Americans), so I stayed with my buddy Fred, who is 6'6" (198cm for non-Americans) because people that tall buy nice couches. That's my origin story.

Interests

I enjoy sincerity. I enjoy knowledge. I enjoy talking to old people. They usually have a lot to say (but are sometimes slightly racist). I enjoy art. But what is art? Whatever it is, I enjoy it. I enjoy drawing, which is why I don't do it professionally. I enjoy swimming, skiing, soccer, and other sports that begin with 'S'. I enjoy music. Do you like music? We should listen to music together. I enjoy knowledge. That bears repeating. I enjoy enjoyment.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is The Fountain. Top Gun will always have a special place in my heart as well. I own the soundtrack on vinyl.

My favorite bands are Nada Surf and Stars, but for the last two years, I've really been enjoying Benjamin Clementine. Also, Joy Division actually puts me in a good mood. I'm not sure what that says about me.

My favorite book is "Never Let Me Go". I don't read as much as I should.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The world is an addiction. Traveling is an addiction. But it's totally healthier than most things people get addicted to. I once met a French band at an airport in Frankfurt, and hung out with them for a while. They were nice. Two years later, I saw their record at a store in Melbourne.

Teach, Learn, Share

It's best not to run through nettles. They cause acute urticaria. During my time in Normandie, I have continuously failed to heed my own advice. But I have yet to encounter nettles in America. I think that's why so many Americans choose to never travel the world. They're afraid of nettles.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share space, ideas, and company. I know my city very well, and can probably put you on the path toward happiness during your time in Rochester (you know, relatively speaking)!

WARNING: I take pride in the number of times I've had guests request to stay one night in ROC on the way to something bigger, only to end up staying two or three nights here instead. So if you have a schedule to keep, you've been warned.

Countries I’ve Visited
