About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I just finished studying and now I need to find out where I want to live and work. So I am on my way around the world for a year.
ABOUT ME
Ok, I don't wanna bore you with my childhood so here is the city Aachen in Germany. It's the city where I started to study electrical engineering. I did a student research project in Seattle in Summer 2004. I fell in love with hanging around with international people from all over the world. I love to hear about other cultures, languages and point of views. Did you know that the melody of "Happy Birthday" is pretty much everywhere the same? And did you know that if you sing it in 8 different languages at the same time it's pretty hard to understand anything? :D
So after being abroad I needed to leave Germany again. So I went to Sweden for an internship. Sweden is a wonderful country with an amazing connection to nature and feasibility. I really love that country. I met a bunch of people from all over Europe and it was so much fun to spend time with them.
When I got back to Germany to start with my final paper I totally missed that international flair. So I decided to join a group of students that would take care of the ERASMUS-students that come to Aachen, my university city. ERASMUS is a student exchange program from european universities. As soon as I joined that group the responsible person for the ERASMUS work left herself for an ERASMUS exchange and so I became the responsible person. So I was responsible for helping the new students to get around in their new city, to make new friends with the other students and let them have a good year. So I organized parties, ERASMUS-weekends, skating nights, an ice hockey game and much more. It was so much fun and that was maybe the best year in my life so far, even though it was really stressful to organize all that stuff but get my final paper done. Anyhow, the positiv respondes from the students were definetly worth all the work. And I don't want to stop hanging around with different cultures. So I decided to go on an around the world trip. I started working after I finished my studies in November 2006 for 6 months and got some money for my trip. And yeah, here we are, that is what I'm doing right now...being on my trip.
PHILOSOPHY
Hmmm, good question. I just enjoy life and take things how they come. I don't need to plan everything far ahead. I like to do funny things to make other people laugh (like dressing up in a hulk costume) and of course I like to laugh about myself as well. So I am really relaxed and laid back. I guess that is why I normally get along with everything pretty well. I would call my self really cooperative and open-minded. I don't care about peoples color, religion or sexuality. It just doesn't make a different.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A friend I met in Seattle told me about that page and I thought it's great. I love to be around international people and hear stories and learn more about other cultures. So I hope on my trip I will meet many interesting people. I don't want to be just a tourist, i wanna get an inview of the culture, the normal life and what it means to be in that country. For me that is more important than seeing all the sights in a place. I think couchsurfing is the best way to experience that.
On the other hand, I like to help people so that is why I would be glad to provide my couch (as soon as I have one again) for other surfers and I like to show people my city and all the good stuff you would miss as a tourist.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted Britt in Aachen and I loved to show her around. Show her all the secret places you would normal miss. Brought her to really good food places for cheap money that we have in Aachen.
In Seattle I have a friend that offered me her couch. She is not a couch surfer tho. But she didn't feel fine with leting me stay for so long and suddently kicked me out of her house more or less. Luckily some other friends offered me to stay at their house without hesitating. Their hospitality is amazing and I really appreciate that. I am a person that can't just get good things so I will be happy to pay back by offering my couch to people after I am done with traveling.
Interests
I like to do all kind of sports. I used to play a lot of Basketball and I play ice hockey. I love to meet new people, specially from other countries. I really like to hang out with my friends. I am a person that puts a lot of energy into friends. Meaning I try to hang out with them and keep in touch with them as much as I can. Another thing I really like is to explore new places. I did Interrail in Europe 3 times and I enjoyed to come to new places and find out where to stay, where to eat and what to do just in the moment when I arrived, not before.
I love to hear other people stories about life, trips and everything else. So often they connect somehow to my experiences in life, it's just amazing.
