About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm just trying to see more of what there is to see.

ABOUT ME

We've travelled a little bit. We like to meet new people, and are happy to host.

PHILOSOPHY

I think it makes sense for people to be great to each other. I think it's important to learn all the time, and to let myself constantly evolve and discard old ideas when better ones present themselves, even when (especially when) the old ones are more comfortable. I'm in a particularly exploratory phase of life right now, and it's a lot of fun.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have not done this before.

Interests

I like to see new places, and especially the type of travel that lends some insight into how other people live. I like to see monuments and museums and whatnot, but I usually prefer to spend most of my time learning about the regular lives of the people in the culture that I'm visiting. I also really like to see the more rural side of a place. When I'm not travelling I study and work. I'm filling this out at a time when I've been travelling in some capacity for almost a year, so life hasn't been normal for a long while. Work has meant everything from supporting people with disabilities to working in a warehouse, and I've liked most of it. In my spare time I would read, watch movies, hang out, etc. Before I began travelling this time around, I used to tutor adults who were working to become literate.

Music, Movies, and Books

Darjeeling Limited, Ghostbusters, The Lives of Others, Lost in Translation, Funky Forest, Red Beard, Never Let Me Go

In terms of music I've been listening to a lot of Little Dragon, Puscifer, and How to Destroy Angels lately. In the past year I went through pretty long Anoushka Shankar and Miles Davis phases. I always appreciate some Norah Jones, and I love Tool.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first time I ever really travelled by myself, I was hitching through the southwestern US, and found myself in Reno, Nevada. The second night that I was there I climbed up a mountain on the Sparks end of the valley. I set up my camp, and then just hung out all night with all of the casinos lit up below me. I think I've seen more amazing things since then, but not anything that had such an affect on me.

This question also made me think of the Great Barrier Reef. I only spent a couple of days diving out there, but there were several times I remember not knowing where to look because there was so much going on all around me. Fish as big as me, and so many different colors on the reefs and animals.

I also very much loved Fribourg in Switerland. I was pretty ill by the time that I got there, and in spite of this I enjoyed that stay.
