ABOUT ME
I am a sometimes quiet, usually funny and often outrageously inappropriate person who enjoys singing and performing, dancing for fun, gardening, acting, laughing, talking, adventuring, joking, hiking, writing songs, feasting (I'm not into fasting), discovering new friends and being happy. I LOVE animals and plants and people.
My first solo experiences traveling and taking part in the Couchsurfing phenomena came In 2008 when I was abroad for most of the year. First I was in Scotland where I spent a semester at Findhorn Ecovillage studying Non violent communication/green building technologies. Then continuing on to France where I Spent 6 months WWOOFing in the Pyrenees mountains herding sheep and working in vegetable gardens.
In 2009 I spent time in the spring exploring the Western states of the USA, I was road tripping and couchsurfing all over the west coast with my sister and also had the chance to WWOOF for a small organic vineyard in CA.
Then that summer I returned to Europe, and spent time in London and Dartmoor England before traveling to Germany to attend a youth conference on sustainability at Sieben Linden ecovillage. Later in the summer I couchsurfed in Berlin (a fabulous experience!) before heading south to WWOOF for another 2 months in the Pyrenees.
I grew up on Martha's Vineyard and I've been living here full time for the last 7 years putting down roots, working tons of interesting, eclectic part time jobs (that's the vineyard way) and creating a flower farm as well as a lot of art.
PHILOSOPHY
"to grow is to go beyond what you are today. stand up as yourself. do not imitate. do not pretend to have achieved your goal, and do not try to cut corners. just try to grow."
-Svami Prajnanpad
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
when I get to travel I try to connect with couchsurfers wherever I go. it's a great way to experience a new place through meeting the people who live there, and I have often been saved at the last minute by generous hosts opening their doors to me :)
When I'm home I try to offer any spare bedrooms in the winter, but in the summer Martha's Vineyard gets too crazy crowded cause everyone wants to either vacation or work here and we rent every single room in my house throughout the summer months so usually it just feels insane to try hosting during the busiest months of May- October.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
i began my official couchsurfing life in the fall of 2008 on a cold gray day in Grenoble, France. my friend and i were on our way to Paris to couchsurf, and we found ourselves unexpectedly stranded. In the afternoon i sent out a message to 25 or so people in the Grenoble network, not expecting to hear back at all, and within two hours i had received 6 invitations for that night, and 10 apologies and helpful suggestions! we found a place to sleep with some wonderful new friends and from that moment on I have been amazed and exuberant about couchsurfing.
so far i have surfed in:
France:
Grenoble
Paris
USA:
Ashland, Oregon (twice!)
Portland, Oregon
Reno, Nevada
Salt Lake City, Utah
Germany:
Berlin
Australia:
Melbourne
Tasmania:
Hobart and Deloraine
and now finally i have completed the cycle by hosting my first couchsurfers!!
these visitors came from all over the world:

etc.
