About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm originally from Texas, but I've recently found my way to Augusta, Georgia, by way of Atlanta. I like to travel, hike, backpack, and camp, though I don't do any of the above nearly enough. More frequently, I read, cook, drink coffee and tea, and spend far too much time on the Internet.
I'm a social justice-minded progressive. I'm actually quite friendly and laid back, even though my quiet and reserved demeanor often suggests otherwise. And I'm a little deadpan and sarcastic.
PHILOSOPHY
A fictional president and his newly appointed aide once paraphrased a Margaret Mead quote: "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I can host, and I like to meet new people, but I don't know if there are too many folks looking for a couch in Augusta, Georgia, for most of the year.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've got some friends that've hosted folks before, but I don't have too much experience with Couchsurfing myself, to be honest.
Interests
Traveling and the outdoors. Good food, good coffee, and tea.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I generally try to avoid the whole movie theater experience. I will make exceptions, though: most recently, the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek movies and the 2012 film adaptation of Les Miserables. (Also, The Campaign, but I was pretty drunk at the time.)
Music: This is really hard. Creedence Clearwater Revival. Cake. Electric Light Orchestra. Electric Six. Queen. I don't know. I also like musicals?
Books: This is even harder, so I'm not going to bother with favorites. I'm starting a second read of Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things. A few weeks ago, I finished Siddhartha Mukherjee's The Emperor of All Maladies, which was absolutely fascinating. And yesterday, I finished up Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. I thought it was stylistically wonderful, but as a whole, I didn't love it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I ought to say something like seeing the burning ghats of Varanasi or hiking through the shorelines of the Upper Peninsula, but I'm going to say that reading the Wikipedia article on brassica oleracea and learning that cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, collard greens, etc., are all technically the same species was amazing and totally blew my mind.
