About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore, learn, discover, eat. With emphasis on eat.

ABOUT ME

Currently studying robotics/mechatronics engineering at a Canadian university and will probably be trying to get in at a European university for a masters.

Outside of school I enjoy basically that involves exercise, discovering and studying nature (mostly birds) some reading (mostly non-fiction) and the usual hanging out with friends.

Ever since I finished my first year of university I had an ever-growing desire to travel anywhere and everywhere I can. There's too many neat things to see and discover and too many quirky/interesting cultures and people to learn from.

Edit: I'm currently doing an abroad work semester in Munich, Germany.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't take myself very seriously and I like to laugh at things a lot. Even when very crappy things happen. Taking a step back and just laughing at that poor sap (me) is always much more fun than getting caught up in it and getting upset over it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our house (shared with other University of Waterloo students) hosted a French couchsurfer. It was awesome and I thought couchsurfing was a terrific concept so I signed up. I only hope to meet some future couchsurfers either through hosting (once I'm in a suitable residence for it) or surfing.

Interests

Lots of sports: squash, ultimate frisbee and volleyball (especially beach) lately but I wish I had time for more. I used to play a lot of baseball but sadly haven't played since starting university.
I also enjoy just about anything with lots of exercise and activity, such as cycling, hiking and bird/nature watching.
Aside from physical activities, I've been getting into bicycling maintenance and repair (send me your messed up bikes!) learning German and reading (when I have time).
Oh and I really like well-crafted beer and spicy hot foods!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies off the top of my head: MIB, Dumb & Dumber - and most of Carry's other early work, Pulp Fiction, Back to the Future etc.Books: I mostly read non-fiction but have definitely enjoyed some fiction such as Fahrenheit 451, 1984 and Harry Potter. haha, I also hate to admit it, but I usually find easier reads such as "high school" type books work best for me as I tend to quickly lose interest when reading a complicated books that take a bit of effort to understand.Music: I love instrumentals. Singing and lyrics aren't nearly as important as having nice melodies. Some bands I like are: Afrocelt, Coldplay, Explosions, Korpiklanni, Mogwai and Saltatio Mortis. Mostly bands with, what I think are, nice instrumentals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I loved climbing the Fjords in Norway with some friends and especially, camping out at the top of Trolltunga (I've have a picture of this uploaded to my profile).

Teach, Learn, Share

I love working with bicycles and would equally love teaching people about them. Naturally, as a native English speaker and an intermediate German speaker, I would gladly teach some of either. I'm also terrible at speaking Canadian French but I can teach you the proper pronounciation of "tabernac" and how the hat you wear in winter is actually called a "toque."
