About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Return the kindness and hospitality extended to us during our journey to the community!

ABOUT ME

Soon-Sa: I am a very open, friendly person who simply loves talking to people. I am fluent in three languages (Japanese, English, German) which has opened many doors during our recent travel.

Having lived in Germany for 2 years in the past has given me an understanding of the western culture, but at the same time, I believe I have certain qualities which I consider to be the beauty of Japanese culture, namely compassion and consideration of others.

Thanks to the enormous amount of TLC from my parents, I consider myself also to be a loving and caring person as well.

PHILOSOPHY

You only live once so you might as well enjoy it! There are so many important things in life and certainly they are not money, career, nor success. We take so many great things for granted without knowing unconsciously. We always thrive to improve myself as an individual to grow myself to become a better person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We would like to participat both physically and spiritually to return the generosity and kindness we received during our travel to other travellers. We would also like to make an effort to increase the number of local Japanese CS members through the word of mouth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have been hosted by a family (non-CS member) who happened to pick us up when we wanted a hitch ride from Bratislava who even took us out to several beer gardens! We were also hosted by someone who was referred to us by a very kind girl working at a backpackers hostel in Bulgaria. The kind of couchsurfing We enjoy the most is when the host is open, laid-back and easy going but at the same time is knowledgable about his or her own culture. Couchsurfing is definitely better than staying at hostels! We respect the given rules in every house and it contributes to both parties to having a more pleasant experience. So far, we have had only the best experience through CS and has been truly rewarding.

Interests

Our most significant interest is Travel. We have finished a 1 year backpacking honeymoon but that was not enough!! We are considering to travel again in the future, to places we still have not visited yet. Other interest are culinary culture, wine, and learning about various cultures and its history. There are so many things one can learn from past history!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite movies are: Casablanca (how can you not love Humphrey Bogard!), The Shawshank Redemption, The Thomas Crown Affair (both old and new), Bullit (Steve McQueen is so cool!!), Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (An awesome harmony of Ennio Morricone's music and Giuseppe Tornatore's directing), Macaroni (Ettole Scola, an excellent acting of Mastrojanni's Neapolitan and Jack Lemmon's corporate bigshot), The Apartment (Jack Lemmon is such a sincere guy!) Lupin the IIIrd Castle of Cagliostro (Hayao Miyazaki's best Animated film), Porco Rosso (Another exquisite Animated film by Hayao Miyazaki) My favorite music is 70s, 80s rock and pop and classical music, mainly Brahms, Mahler, Beethoven, and Mozart. Current favorite album is Takk by Sigur Ros. Favorite book is The Prophet by Kalil Ghibran.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This travel which I am doing right now and gliding, which I have done in Germany this summer! I have always wanted to try skydiving, which is supposed to be mind boggling.

Teach, Learn, Share

Language is certainly one of my strength. For those who would like to improve their English, I will be more than happy to correct their mistakes. This is how I learned German and it is always the best way to learn a language. I can also share the experience I have gathered so far during my travel.

Life is about learning until the day we die and I thrive to be teachable at all times. After all, a day without new knowledge is a wasted day!
