About Me

CURRENT MISSION

going on a national tour, taking the bus.

ABOUT ME

I write songs and poems, so naturally I love to listen to music and read poetry.

I've worked some service industry jobs since college, most of which I hated. Right now I work as a doorperson at a bar and music venue, which definitely has its lucky moments but is overall a rough shake. I did love working at a record store. Camp counselor was also a pretty fun thing to do once.

I am a kind and generous soul. I like to cook for people. I'm a vegan.

PHILOSOPHY

I still feel too young to declare that much, except 'try hard not to be prejudiced.'

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have yet to host someone through this site, but my roommate and I have touring poets sleep on our couch pretty often, so somebody in need of a place to stay for some other reason would certainly be welcome at the right time.

I've slept on a fair amount of couches while touring with my own poetry and music, so I consider myself a well-practiced and good houseguest.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My poet friends and I once slept in a house built to resemble the Alamo, belonging to an old painter in New Mexico. He spoke to us all night about Jesse James, Buffalo Bill, Muhammad Ali, dinosaurs, all the kinds of loss. We built a fire outside and drank whiskey and looked at the moon. That was a good one.

Interests

Music, poetry, and food. If I had some binoculars, I bet I'd love birdwatching, but currently it's mostly just those three.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Harold & Maude, Annie Hall, The Seventh Seal, movies by Jim Jarmusch.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Music: Patsy Cline, Sam Cooke, The Smiths, The Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, X, The Mountain Goats, St. Vincent, The Magnetic Fields, Land of Talk, Scout Niblett, too many more to list.

Books: No One Belongs Here More Than You (Miranda July), Birds of America (Lorrie Moore), Interpreter of Maladies (Jhumpa Lahiri), Trout Fishing in America (Richard Brautigan), Ask the Dust (John Fante), Memoir of the Hawk (James Tate), If One Of Us Should Fall (Nicole Terez-Dutton)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The beaches of Maine. There was a rocky side of this one beach my family would visit when I was a kid--my siblings and I called it "Dinosaur Land." No place that I've seen has ever made me feel quite that good.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have had the privilege of traveling the world a fair amount in my short life, and the main lesson I have gleaned is that a human being can only know a very small amount of what there is to know--it's a big and complicated world and I can't say that I really 'get it.'

That said, I love to talk, and I love to learn.
