About Me

I'm a keen learner who loves to meet new people, share experiences and get involved in all sorts of adventures. A friend once wished me to see this day as the perfect day of the rest of my perfect life, it helps me get out of the day-to-day rut. I'm eager to try new things, although frustratingly there's never enough time to master any of them.

I love the great wild outdoors.

I talk a lot, often quite loudly (a compensating mechanism for my freakishly small ears) and quite fast (I'm working on it...), though mostly cause I'm happy to be around people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's such a brilliant place to meet like-minded people and see the world through the eyes of those who know it best. I also love the idea of contributing to values of sharing and helping each other out as a community, which Couchsurfing propagates.

Interests

I'm passionate about various outdoor activities incl. cycling, horseriding, skiing/snowboarding, kayaking and other means to "shorten my parents' lives", as they put it. Recently tried wild camping and found it to be an addictive and liberating experience. One day I hope to convert a van and set off to the way incorporating as many of these activities as possible.

I also love dance, it's a brilliant art form, which combines music, theatre and physicality. I recently started going to salsa congresses, which are a brilliant place to learn but also meet wonderful people.

I enjoy learning languages, and putting them to practice. If I had another simultaneous life, I'd love to study South Asian language and culture and learn Sanskrit and Tibetan. In reality, I'm working on my Spanish in hope to travel around South America sometime soon.

Could not live without animals. Our home in Vilnius used to be a tiny zoo with 3 dogs, 5 cats and even 2 shrimps (until one of the cats broke into and ate them). I'm so blessed to have recently adopted 2 beautiful cats here in London, they brighten my days.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a really hard question because my tastes on all three are very varied.

Regarding books, my favourite probably would have to be Bulgakov's "Master and Margarita", cause it's pure genius. Otherwise I read science fiction (Asimov, D.Adams, A.C.Clarke...), fantasy (Tolkien, Pratchett, Pulmann...), I enjoy fiction books set in exciting places to learn about other cultures through the eyes of the characters - recently read Orhan Pamuk's "Istanbul" and currently reading Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children".

Regarding movies/ tv shows, I most enjoy science fiction (Bladerunner, Black Mirror, Ex Machina), space (Moon, 2001 Odissey), but I really watch a lot of things.

Music is the hardest one to define, as it purely depends on my mood, time of day and activity. I enjoy classical music and opera when I get the chance to visit, pop (Robyn, early stuff of Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Arianna Grande), lounge for work (Hotel Costes series is a good example), have recently got more into rap and grime as well (Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Stormzy), it's hard to give a well-serving snapshot in a few lines.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The amazing (and often simple) things I enjoyed:

-greeting the sunrise on the hill overlooking one of Lithuania's national parks;
-going for a midnight swim in the Danube with my best friend;
-singing, playing drums and telling stories in the desert in Morocco;
-sharing my exam-preparation caffeine at 4am with Trafalgar square lions;
-climbing trees in lots of random places;
-seeing Vilnius from a kayak in winter.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach yoga and always happy to share my experience to those interested. I love vegetarian cooking (an experience to be shared both ways), and sharing outdoor adventures.
