I was a very active couchsurfer, including as an event organizer and 8 years as an Ambassador. With this paywall I think Couchsurfing has lost its way. This is an edited version of my resignation letter from the Ambassadors, which details why:

I focus on how it's quite possible that Couchsurfing could've remained a non-profit, that hospitality exchange is fundamentally incompatible with a for-profit business, misleading elements and an outright lie in their May 2020 blog posts announcing the change.
