About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Put lots of deposits in the memory bank to cash out when I'm old and grey

ABOUT ME

I'm a socialist, a pacifist, an atheist and a realist. wow that's a lot of -ists... I don't judge people and I respect other's beliefs and opinions (I might challenge them though if I'm feeling feisty) as long as the respect is mutual. I have vague dreams of doing great things. I just need to figure out what those might be.

Things I like. Good food, random nights out at grimy little clubs listening to wonky beats, rock 'n roll, travelling, falling in and out of love, art (even if I don't get it), some books, some kinds of music, certain films and all that sort of good stuff.

PHILOSOPHY

Look, listen, reflect, act (not necessarily in that order). Be kind and understanding but don't let people run all over you. Figure out what you want to do and just get on with it. (still working on that last one myself). Live for people not for God.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I caught onto the magic of couchsurfing when I travelled through South America in 2009 and surfed with some great people in Chile, Argentina and Brazil. I moved to Berlin in 2010 where I also stayed with soem great hosts before settling into my own flat where I have been able to host a lot of friends and family and was lucky enough to be able to pay back some couch surfing debts to some of the people i met on my travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

-Had my first CS experience in Rio staying at Leandro´s house and it was wicked good times.
-Surfed with the awesome Kristel in Valparaiso, Chile and went back for another stay at the end of my trip. Her and her flatmates were amazingzingzingzing
-A brief stay with Ofelia in La Serena, also in Chile.
-Also hung out with Francisca aka Piska in Santiago.
-Stayed for a night with Nestor in Buenos Aires and he took me to a house party with the most riculously sized barbecue I have ever seen in a normal house. Parilllaaaaaaa!
-Surfed for a week with Vera in Buenos Aires which was wickety wack and then some
-Just moved to Berlin and stayed with Alyesha, Lisa, Oli, Becky and Magdalena. All great people!

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently saw Synecdoche, New York yesterday which was one of the most interesting films I've seen in ages. Check it out! Generally I like films that are a little challenging and that have real characters. No hollywood rom coms or tired action movies thank you. That's not to say I don't like comedy or a bit of sci-fi or action or a tasty thriller, just with some imagination please. Favourites include Requiem For a Dream, Sideways, Pulp Fiction, Lost In Translation, Being John Malkovich, Fight Club, Old Boy (a brilliant Korean film), American Beauty, the first Matrix, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Twin Peaks (The Series), The man who wasn't there, Taxi Driver, jeez, there are so many more.

I was never interested in reading as a kid but this has changed massively in recent years. Some of my favourites I can think of now anything by Chuck Pahlaniuk, The Kite Runner, East of Eden, De Asielzoeker (Dutch book), Nausea, A Brief History Of Everything, El Amor en los Tiempos de Colera and many others I can't think of now (I suck at remembering names, titles etc.). As with films I like novels with a bit of depth that touch on the strengths and frailties that are at the centre of the human condition.

Musically I like a lot of things although most of my cd collection consists of indie and rocky bands. Favourites include Nine Inch Nails, The National, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Box Revelation, Radiohead, Interpol, Soulwax, Arcade Fire, The XX, Massive Attack, Badly Drawn Boy, The Chemical Brothers, Arctic Monkeys, dEUS (an amazing Belgian band who should be world famous) and many many many many more I can't possibly all list here. I also (try to) DJ a little bit (I'm pretty rubbish though) so I have a fair bit of electronic music too, mostly electro, some breaks, some minimal techno, mash-ups and the odd D 'n B track. I don't own much hip hop although I can appreciate a bit of old school style, not so much the gangsta rap though. That whole bling bling and bitches kind of attitude just doesn't work for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 14 I won the The Flemish cup final with my local football team. I remember being ecstatic at the end of the game. We all received a shiny medal and some new boots. Happy days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak and write fluent Dutch, English, French and German and can get by decently in Spanish. I would gladly share some lingo skills. Other than that I know bits and pieces about computer technology, web design and dj'ing but I'm very much an amateur on those subjects. I've also spent quite a bit of time snowboarding although I'm certainly not a pro but if you're a beginner I could teach you a thing or two. I'd also love to discuss views on morality and life with anyone who's keen.
