About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be happy and to climb mountains.

ABOUT ME

Hello, I'm Stefan, I climb mountains and write code. Who are you?

PHILOSOPHY

I care because you do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm quite new to couchsurfing. Even though I signed up already a while ago, I haven't had the chance lately to use it (this either means that I didn't travel enough lately (what a shame) or that I only visited places where I already had friends with couches ;-)).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A long time ago I had the pleasure of living together with two couchsurfers in Cambridge, MA. So we had people staying with us once in a while.
My CS flatmates once organized a party. About 100 people showed up, mostly couchsurfers. Since the apartment was too small, we had roughly 30 people hanging out in front of our house, most of them with a beer in their hand. The police warned us once, but when they came back a second time we had even more people drinking on our porch. We then had 7 policemen in our apartment shutting the party down before midnight. :-(
On the bright side: I was quite tired already and was able to get my good night's sleep. Also since the party ended so early, we afterwards had a beer stock that would last for the next three months. ;-)

Interests

Climbing, running, mountaineering, eating, back country skiing, coding, traveling, reading a book once in a while, and enjoying good times with good people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: a bit of everything, from classical over ska, funk, and metal to 8bit chiptunes. I got my favourite picks in every genre.

Books: science fiction, after having read Asimov's essential books, I'm now reading Tad William's Otherland. I further love Franco-Belgian comic books (Thorgal, XIII, Largo Winch, etc.).

Movies: most movies from Taratino, everything from Darren Aronofsky, animes from Studio Ghibli.
TV Shows: (way too many) Breaking Bad, South Park, Game of Thrones, Dexter, Homeland, The Big Bang Theory, Battlestar Galactica, How I Met Your Mother, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

(phew, this will be tricky to not only list climbed mountains ;-)

Struggling through the 78km of the Swiss Alpine Marathon, twice.

Climbing the Salbit west ridge.

Sleeping under the open sky far off from civilization and with an amazingly beautiful starry sky.

Standing on the highest summit of Switzerland.

Going abroad twice for an exchange during my university studies (Toronto and Boston).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can show you how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

I can teach you he basics of rock climbing.

I know a little about computers, maths, and physics.

I'd like to learn to cook properly (i.e., extending my skills beyond cooking pasta).
