About Me

I'm an extremely out-going and passionate guy who is always up for an adventure, but who also knows how to relax and just go with the flow. I tend to oscillate between being an introverted nerd and extroverted moron.

The majority of my is spent producing electronic music (Future Magic if you want to look me up on SoundCloud/Spotify). Being that I come from a rock/singer-songwriter background, I gravitate primarily towards dubstep/heavy bass music, melody always being the main driver. Eventually I will blend my two musical identities into one, but not until I'm satisfied with my skills as a producer first.

For work (well, my “day job”), I'm a bartender as well as a full-time model. Now before you start picturing scenes from Zoolander, you should know that I'm fully aware that my job as a model has a lot to do with luck and the genes I got from my parents and very little with me doing any sort of thing that might imply that I've earned or deserve it. So although I love my job and am grateful I can do it, I don't take myself seriously at all. My work ethic I take seriously of course, but myself? No way. Life's too short for that. Plus one day I'll be old, wrinkled and fat, so I need to make sure I actually have a personality.

But I digress.

I speak, read and write Japanese fluently (I lived there for 3.5 years.)

Sometimes I like to party. Sometimes I like to eat cereal all day.

I enjoy debating and having deep intellectual conversations, but I also know how to be a dork and am a huge comedy nerd. I love Bill Burr, Mitch Hedburg, Louis C.K., Hannibal Burress and a bunch of others.

Science > everything.

I don't stress about my social image and just do what makes me happy. I'm not concerned with being everyone's friend and try to keep myself surrounded with people who make my life better - I have lots of goals and aspirations and am not interested in wasting my time with people who will only slow me down. That being said however, I treat everyone I meet with respect and equality, being as compassionate as I can no matter what the situation. A quote by Sam Harris sums up my philosophy on life quite nicely:

"Consider it: every person you have ever met, every person will suffer the loss of his friends and family. All are going to lose everything they love in this world. Why would one want to be anything but kind to them in the meantime?"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet and connect with new people around the world while pursuing my passions, hopefully being able to share some of these with them, as well as learn from them and what makes them tick and gives them purpose etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Seven Lions, Bondax, Otis Redding, James Brown, The Killers, Journey, Ennio Morricone, Skrillex, Au5, Blink-182, Taking Back Sunday, The Raconteurs, Pretty Lights, Gramatik, Green Day, Bruno Mars, Panic! At The Disco, Sirensceol, Singularity, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Fractal, Kings Of Leon, Alex S., Fareoh, The White Stripes, Brand New, The Eden Project...and too many more to keep listing.

Books: Lately I've been reading almost strictly non-fiction, particularly in relation to neuroscience, neuropharmacology, evolutionary psychology, and consciousness (the brain fascinates me). However; being that my major in University was English Literature, I also adore fiction. Some of my favourite authors (both non-fiction and fiction) are Sam Harris, Tom Robbins, David Sedaris, Chuck Palahniuk, Ernest Hemingway, Christopher Hitchens, Shakespeare (his comedies in particular are pure genius; so relevant and funny as hell), Natsume Soseki, Cormac McCarthy, and Richard Dawkins, Jonathan Safran Foer. I should also point out that if Wikipedia were in fact a book it (and probably Pubmed, longecity.com and reddit) would be on this list. I can be having an awful day and all it takes to get me out of the dumps is reminding myself that there is literally 100s of lifetimes worth of information out on the internet waiting for me to learn about it. We live in a truly wonderful time.

Film: Quentin Tarentino, Clint Eastwood, Wes Andrerson, Tom Ford, John Hillcoat, Akira Kurosawa, Kevin Smith, James Cameron...again, I could go on and on. My favourite movie is without a doubt the "The Road". Absolutely brilliant film.

Shows: I watch a lot of Netflix.
