I am a 19-year old student, currently doing my exchange semester in Topeka, Kansas. I love taking every opportunity to travel, no matter how low my budget is! I've previously used similar platforms like Workaway to do a solo-trip around Germany last summer. I usually travel sleeping in hostels. Often I simply approach the first person I see in there, and before I know, I end up wandering through the streets until 4 in the morning with them, having amazing conversations. This way I made friends with people from many different countries and I hope to meet even more! (even though it doesn't always have to get late :)

Next year I'm planning to do my internship in a hostel in Leon, Nicaragua. I am interested in almost everything that comes my way and try to make the best out of every possible situation. Here in Topeka, I've tried out many things I've never done before, like pickleball and line dancing and much more, and I'm absolutely enjoying it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just got on Couchsurfing and I'm looking for my first experience using this platform. After the semester ends on May 15th, I am traveling in the northeastern part of the US before going back home to Belgium. Whenever I travel to a place, I like to imagine how it would feel to actually live there. That's why I'd love to explore the area with the knowledge of a real local, so I can better understand all aspects of that location. I would be interested in hearing all the personal stories and connections that people have with the environment they live in.

I can listen to different kinds of music like jazz, blues or pop. Since I began studying in Kansas I've been getting into country music on which you can line and swing dance :) My all-time favourite song might be Punky's Dilemma by Simon and Garfunkel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently did a solo trip over the spring break using only busses and trains. I passed Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and New Mexico. It was an amazing experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn languages. I also love to teach Dutch, especially since there aren't many people interested in learning it. The history and personal stories of a place interest me a lot as well.
