About Me
Hello human friends of Planet Earth!
My name is Stef Henderson, also known as Kittyhawk :) I like to describe myself as a young-hearted, free-spirited creature of the forest who strives to enjoy the human experience as best as I can with the opportunities I'm given. I'm currently an environmental studies student at UC Santa Barbara, and spend most of my time these days in the wilds of Isla Vista, frolicking in the eucalyptus and oak groves, attempting to catch some surf, and drifting dreamily over the mighty kelp forests off the coast.
I find that one of the most pleasurable things in life is seeking and finding connection...connection with myself, with the people around me, and with the earth around us all. Connection comes from the most unexpected places at the most unpredictable times, and I've found that just drifting with the flow of life, wherever it may take me, will lead to the most profound and frequent connections I make :)
I'm currently pursuing a path of nature connection...a lifelong journey filled with self-directed discovery and learning of primitive skills, natural history, and mentoring. I'm currently an Apprentice with Wilderness Youth Project in Santa Barbara, and plan to work with many similar organizations and camps throughout my life. My lifelong career/life goal currently is to start my own nonprofit nature connection camp (hopefully somewhere in the redwoods of my beautiful California).
Until then, I want to get my degree, travel the world without a plan, share my knowledge and gifts with all those I meet, and learn all I can about anything and everything :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm here because I want to actively travel with the intention to share and learn. I find that a lot of travelers I meet are the most willing to listen to the things I have to share, and I also find that they are often the most willing to share their own unique gifts with me:)
Interests
I'm so passionate about all of these things!!
Flow arts is a big one. I define it as the skillful manipulation of props integrated with dance. It's such a rewarding community to be a part of...every flow artist has their own unique style of flow and it's all about building skills and flow together!
I could go on all day about veganism, but I'll just say this here: I've been living the vegan lifestyle for about 8 years now. I started out doing it for my love of animals, but then realized how big an impact veganism makes on fighting pretty much every major environmental problem you can think of...
Climbing yay! I don't know what to say. I like climbing shit. I'm a short person so maybe getting up high makes me feel more empowered and free than I feel on the ground...

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm really bad with genres, but I'm into pretty much anything that you'd hear at a transformational festival. I really like music with deep psychedelic bass...otherwise, my passions for music came from my raving days as a kandi kid, and I'm still into a lot of the stuff that is still popular in the scene today, such as psytrance, melbourne bounce, several different subgenres of house, dubstep, etc.
I have too many favorite movies and I actually haven't seen a lot, but here are some of my favorites: Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, James Cameron's Avatar, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Interstellar
I haven't had much time to read for pleasure in the past couple years as I've been really busy with school and pursuing my other passions, so my favorite books are the same they were 5-10 years ago....the Eragon Saga, the Fablehaven series, and the Harry Potter series are my top 3. All are very epic magical fantasies!

What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my flow with you:) If you've never seen someone dance with hoops or other flow toys, you're in for a treat! Otherwise, I can share my unique perspectives about society, the world, and the universe with you. Or I can make yummy vegan treats for you (if you let me use your kitchen...:)
I can also teach you how to make a friction fire! Fire with nothing but sticks, a stone, and a string:)
