About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

31 years old, I work with waves and numbers, I travel whenever I can and try to experience and learn new stuff.

I enjoy meeting people from different places. I like the first disorienting feeling when I shake a stranger's hand and the following ice-breaking phase that gets you to know him/her better and eventually to enjoying each other's company.
I love to exchange life experiences and knowledge: it is the best way I know to keep my mind open, to always question myself, to discover new things and ways of thinking different from mine. In times like these I realize how diversity is what makes the little blue dot we live in so special.

Also, some info for my unlucky next host: I don't smoke, I drink, I eat meat but I can become a temporary veggie upon request.

PHILOSOPHY

"“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious."
A. Einstein

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."
St. Augustine

"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life."
Jack Kerouac

"Un paese ci vuole, non fosse che per il gusto di andarsene via. Un paese vuol dire non essere soli, sapere che nella gente, nelle piante, nella terra c'è qualcosa di tuo, che anche quando non ci sei resta ad aspettarti."
Cesare Pavese

"Take it easy."
J. Lebowsky

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I recently started hosting and I have been surfed and met CSers around the world several times.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have bothered a bunch of awesome people:

- Mariangela, Berlin, April 2010
- Sebastién, Paris, August 2010
- Cédric, Lyon, December 2010
- Dawn, New York City, June 2011

Also, I recently started hosting.

Interests

The main reason I work 8-5 is to waste most of what I earn in travels, concerts and food,
The best part is when the three coincide, which means a concert or music festival abroad is always a good excuse to catch a flight, and I always try to get a bite of the local delicacies.

Beside that I like photography, whether I see pictures in an exhibition or just trying to emulate them with my camera. By the way, you can find some of those in my Flickr page (https://www.flickr.com/photos/stetre/).

I'm also an avid reader (there is always a couple of books on my bedside table) and I enjoy good music, especially when it's live.

Finally I like everything related to science and technology. So yes, I am also a nerd, and my present for my 12th birthday was a telescope!

Music, Movies, and Books

I list here the books I've read and I'm currently reading, but the one I would totally recommend are:

- Moby Dick, by Herman Melville
- Il deserto dei Tartari, by Dino Buzzati
- Flatland, by Edwin Abbott
- Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami
- The Dubliners, by James Joyce
- On the road, by Jack Kerouac

The music I like is here:

Also the movie part would be quite long, but my favorite directors are the Coen's brothers, Sergio Leone, Wes Anderson and Gabriele Salvatores.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you:
- some basics of photography, other than hitting the Istangram button and "make the pictures look cooler".
- Italian, of course.
- I cannot teach you how to dance, but if you are ready to be disappointed I'd like to learn.
- How to find Betelgeuse and the Pleiades (if you visit in winter) or Jupiter and the Polar star (if you come in summer)

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, Cambodia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
