About Me

My name is Steffen, I am 24 years old and currently studying Computer Science in my home country Denmark.
I am very passionate about my studies and I am using a lot of time studying in my everyday life. Nevertheless I have always liked to be outside and have from an early age been dragged outside by my parents to help in the garden, hike or explore the nature. As a child this was at times a bit much, but I am very grateful for that now, and it has become what I like to do in my spare time now.

I have worked at the local supermarket for 7 years. I worked a lot the first 5 years, but more for the company and the fun of it the later years. Other than that I have been a photographer at a student driven magazine, where I among other things took photos at concerts, festivals and other events.
The last couple of years I have been an teaching assistant at my university, meaning I have helped teaching younger students.

After spending the last couple of years studying, working and not relaxing that much, I am becoming more aware that I would like to prioritize to get out more to experience the nature and the world.
I like to get inspired by others living a life more in contact with nature, giving me ideas of how I myself can combine my work and my other interests.

I find myself a very easygoing person, accepting other people as they are and a good listener of their stories. So please tell me yours.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to get the most out of my travels, for me that means getting to know some of the local people and getting familiar with their way of living. From what I have experienced you will get a lot more out of a visit when talking to the locals getting their tips and recommendations.

Interests

I have a general interest in nature, and like to spend a lot of time outside. This could be hiking, a thing I really like to do! I have hiked in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Canada. In Denmark we have no mountains but we do have a lot of interesting nature nevertheless. I enjoy walking around the coastline and have walked around a few of the islands in Denmark.
Another thing I enjoy to do outside is cycling. I do it mostly to get out and relax and less for the exercise. I also like to do it for commuting.
Most of the time when I am outside I am easily spotted with my camera equipment over my shoulder and a camera in my hands. I take a lot of landscape photos but basically like photographing anything.
I have recently started bouldering (indoor climbing without rope) and enjoy doing that as much as possible.
I have a bachelor degree in Computer Science (soon becoming a cand scient), and have a general interest in the field. What I especially like is when people use the tools and methods of computer science to help other scientific areas or solve everyday tasks in a new and innovative way.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a very broad taste in music. I listen to everything from Emniem to Rammstein to the more ordinary pop music.
Right now I listen to a lot of Danish music, typically some more poetic music in the pop/rock/folk genre.
I have not read as much as I would have liked to in the resent years due to being fed up with studying. Nevertheless I like to read biographies of people doing something extraordinary, like traveling in interesting ways, or who have experienced exciting things.
I watch a lot of different movies and series. If I want to have a good laugh I watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Big Bang Theory or The Office. Other than that I like to watch classical movies such as Good Will Hunting, Shawshank Redemption, Rainman and similar.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I have seen or done:
I have just finished a semester in Canada as an exchange student. It was a great experience to actually live in another country, getting to know it's people and become more aware of the similarities and differences of the countries. I did spend a lot of time studying, and wanted to have more time in this very interesting country. Due to that I bought a van (together with one of my friends) and we travelled the western Canada, hiking mountains, looking at waterfalls and enjoying life. Definitely an experience which puts things into perspective.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to share any of my knowledge, and due to my education I can teach you some of the basics of computer science and programming (what I also have done to new students at my university).
I can teach you the basics of photography and how to get more acquainted with a camera.
In any of my fields of knowledge I know that I still have a lot to learn and would always like to learn more. I like to get acquainted with new cultures and other ways of living, giving me new input to how I would like to live, and what I would like to do with my life.
I like to share any of my experiences from life in general, being studying, hiking or traveling.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer a host my company. I am always interested in hearing where people come from, where they are now and what they think of life.
I like to share my own thoughts as well and share my knowledge learned both from my education and through my interests.
I see myself as being easy to deal with and very accepting of other people.
I can also offer a home cooked meal. I like to cook, preferably together with others, even though I may not be the best cook, I have no trouble cooking some traditional Danish dishes for my hosts.
As mentioned I enjoy taking photos and would like to get better at taking photos of people, I can offer to take photos of any host to use for social media or just for the fun of it
