About Me

Hey there!

I am Steffen, born in the south of Hamburg, Germany, grew up on Kaua'i, HI. When I was five my parents took me back to Germany, in order for me to go to school.

Then stations in Northern Germany followed, Hamburg, then a small village at the Northern Sea, no waves, but fortunately lot's of wind for kitesurfing. Studied Journalism in Hamburg and Berlin enjoying the features of living in a big, pulsating town.

Since I finished college I live for six months out of the year in Europe and spend the rest on Kaua'i.

I am half workaholic - working on two jobs, studying, friends etc... And my other half has got island spirit in it, the don't hurry and "stop and smell the roses"-style. I enjoy going into the woods, nature, climbing big hills.

I couchsurfed the Middle East, stoking times in Jordan, West Bank and Israel, New Zealand.. Snowboarding in the french alps (Chamonix) with people I met couple weeks before surfing in Portugal. Reconnecting with relatives in São Paulo and Chile, Central America.. Hah, good times.

PHILOSOPHY

-the good things that are happening are great- and the bad things are there to learn from them. I have a list with every messed up situation I found myself in and one sentence, how to make it better next time.

In Ireland mean and difficult things who happen in life are just "character building." Good point.

To summarize.. Be nice, learn and reflect and.. enjoy!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CS is not Tinder and not Airbnb. It's about having a save place worldwide, at somebodys house who is open minded, cool and ready to teach you something new, to become your friend and vice versa.

Interests

I love watersports like kitesurfing and surfing.

Since a, in a way life-changing, trip to relatives on Kaua'i (Hawaii), I am always searching for new input, new exiting things to explore, new people telling me stories about their attidute. These steady waves of new stuff keeps me creative and fortunate.

What else.. Listening to 60s and 70s Rock, dancing to Elektro and Techno. Loving the feeling of warm sun on my skin and always looking forward for good food.

Kitesurfing, Surfing, Krav Maga, Parkour, hiking, climbing, Graffiti, reading, self-improvement, photography, creating short films, bodyweight training, Street Workout, dancing and clubbing, the sun, nature, jumping off from big cliffs, human rights, Amnesty Int. and a bunch of other
stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got the most amazing view in my life when I was standing on a cliff on Kaua'i (Hawaii), looked west and saw the Pacafic in its full fullness. So much space and so much nowhere, some surfers at the shore catching waves and more far out you saw jumping humpback whales. That was so nice.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you basic Parkour moves and tricks or tell you from the way the Elektro community in Hamburg is creating their own space to live and celebrate. (Open-Air)

If water and decent waves are around, I can take you surfing.

And.. have you ever heard about NONI? This is on amazing thing I would be so glad to share with you.. Wanna hear more, let me know!

And I can tell you from the every days life of a longshoreman at the Hamburg harbor. Moving cargo, mostly cars and containers. Lashing the containers on the vessels.

I the ways of the peoples attitude to life in Germany, Western Europe and the United states. Now I want to learn where the differences are.
