About Me

Alright, alright alright. My name is Stelios and I was born in Athens, Greece but raised in Nicosia, Cyprus in a quiet neighbourhood with not much going on for it. I've been hanging out with the same group of friends since then so you could say I'm rather easygoing and patient up to a point. Living in such a small country made me eager to travel and meet people from all over the world. You should now know that I'm a talker; I like to talk, a lot. Exchanging views and ideas with people from different cultures is one of my favorite things and one of the main reasons I'm writing this right now! I don't have any experience with backpacking yet and aside from the fact that I'm a couch potato when I'm not being my awesome, adventurous self, I don't have any other experience with couches, let alone surfing them, but I am planning to change that asap! And to conclude my little introduction I have to say that I might be the least judgemental guy you'll ever meet, only prejudicing towards assholism or generally bad behaviour. Always be nice for the sake of it, y'know?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I wanted to not only travel but also meet people from different countries and get to know their culture a little bit better and maybe make a few friends along the way! The best way to experience a trip is with someone who has lived there, after all, isn't it? Locals know their land better than any foreign guide as far as I know, and getting to meet and interact with them will surely be something to treasure. Besides, you can never have too many friends!

Interests

I'm interested in a lot of things but right now my daily activities consist of studying, reading, writing, exercising, watching movies, playing the guitar and playing video games, all while listening to music. I'm always down for a game of football (or soccer if you like), or a long walk and a conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

My music taste is quite broad but I'm partial to english rock and metal more than anything else. My favorite bands include Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Anathema and Opeth at the moment but I can surely enjoy anything thrown at me. Lately I've been really getting into hip-hop artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Gramatik.

Movies:

As for movies, I try to watch as many as I can. I'm a big David Fincher and Christopher Nolan fan and I really enjoy watching mind-bending movies such as Donnie Darko, ExistenZ and Inception. My guilty pleasure is rom-coms and teen flicks, as well as animated features. Oh and I probably know most of the Disney movie songs by heart.

Books:

I've just started reading for pleasure again after a long hiatus and I have to say I've been missing out on some great books. I have recently read some classics, "The Great Gatsby", "To kill a mockingbird" and "Fight Club" (it's a classic, okay?) and I plan on continuing this trend from now on. I also have an Asterix and Lucky Luke collection, I'd say I'm a big fan of Goscinny and his work!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So my amazing thing stems from my first couchsurfing experience, which is when my guests and I took our musical instruments and played music on Lecabettus hill, Exarcheia square and Thisseio at night with strangers from all over the world dancing to our music and coming up to us to congratulate us. My other "amazing" thing is going to be having published a book in a few years, hopefully.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm easy to pick up new languages at least at a very low level, so wherever I go I always try to learn a few phrases and practice the language while I'm there. I'd also love to learn how to play the piano, or learn how to actually dance (instead of flailing my limbs around) or something like that. I have also never hiked so any skills I have are from watching Bear Grylls on the discovery channel, everything else I must learn!
