ABOUT ME

I am a friendly, down to earth and reflective person who enjoys socialising as well as having quiet, chilled out moments alone.

I like the buzz of conversations with friends in bars, as well as finding a place with some good, loud, live music. I also love to be out in nature, or chilling out with a good book or film.

I'm a coffee addict but please don't be put off by my lack of life in the morning. You just need to inject me with the black stuff...!

Very important note: I don't like nightclubs or dance music.

So far in my travels I have realised that one thing we all have in common is the need to eat. Cooking and sharing a meal together is a great way to get to know one another...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My partner (you can find him in my friend list as Rufus Richardson) and I had the fortunate experience of couchsurfing (mainly in Eastern Europe) with many excellent and generous people. Since moving back to Australia we have hosted, but not enough!!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is what keeps me alive. I generally prefer grunge, indie rock, hard rock and metal but can be partial to classical music when my head needs a rest. Here's some examples of what I like:

Alice in Chains, Nirvana, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Tool, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Orden Ogan, Metallica, Grave Digger, Machine Head, Slayer, Soundgarden, Muse, The Pixies, The Animals, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Stone Roses, Nick Cave, Boards of Canada, Interpol, Bob Dylan, The Editors, The Smiths, Pulp...

Film: Some of my favorite directors are David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Lepage. I like the weird and the wacky, as well as slow and reflective films. I also have a lot of time for documentaries, especially those with underlying political tones such as 'The Corporation'.

Books: My taste in books is always changing. Recently I've enjoyed fiction books with an element of historical fact such as 'The Orientalist' by Tom Reiss and 'Middlesex' by Jeffrey Eugenides. One of my favourite books is 'Narcissus and Goldmund' by Herman Hesse.

I also love BBC comedy and my favourites would have to be 'The Mighty Boosh' and 'The Young Ones'.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have studied Aboriginal culture and Australian history at university (in a previous Bachelor). Because of this I have a lot of knowledge that I can share with fellow couch surfers about my own country. Unlike a lot of Australians, I have also traveled extensively in my own country.
