About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To give in to the wanderlust!

ABOUT ME

My friends call me the "crazy one". I'm not sure why - some say it's my inexplicable draw to the most outrageous countries and experiences I can lay my hands on. Maybe it's because I have said on more that one occasion I intend to give up what most people call a 'normal life' to travel for a living. Most say it's because I love to try any and every odd food I can find - the odder the better. However we all agree I'm a story telling, adventure lover who has a passion for life, people and great experiences - not to mention a great sense of humour!

PHILOSOPHY

You can never have too many experiences, too many friends, too many adventures or too much laughter. As cliche as it is, you do only live once (this time) so why not make the best of it now? Why feed into the forced norm of the white picket fence, large bank account and cars - when there are much better scenes to life hidden with barbed wire fences, free entrance and the zany world you find on public transport? At the end of the day the open mind has much more to smile about.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by living! Participate in life, it's not there to pass you by!

I also participate by offering cheesy inspirational quotes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

At the moment I am relatively new to the CouchSurfing website, but not so much to the experience itself. Most memorable would be staying with a lovely family in Tokyo who had two adorable boys under the age of 5! They kindly taught me important words through the power of saturday morning cartoons and showed me an amazing temple hidden from tourists. They were gracious, kind and absolutely amazing people.

Interests

I love to write, travel (clearly!) and spend time with new and old friends. Cooking keeps my life engaging, but friends make it worthwhile!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a huge documentary nut. On the rare times you find me curled up on a sofa not out in the world -I am most likely enjoying either Discovery/National Geographic/Travel and Escape/Animal Planet TV shows learning what I can, or dipping my toes into some foreign films and documentaries. I've found some great local Canadian films (see French Immersion for a wonderful Quebec comedy!).
Books are normally travelogues, firing me up for another trip or biographies. I recently took a trip back to my youth and re-read all the Harry Potter books for a bit of whimsy in my day to day life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've ever seen was a man tie a goat on the the front handlebars of a bicycle after purchasing it at the market. Then I watched TWO men get on the bike and drive off into the sunset - the bleating of the goat carrying on down the street. Hilarious and something I am sure to never see again! (Though it may be slightly rivalled by the sight of a man shaving while bicycling in the same city...)

Teach, Learn, Share

My passion is in story telling and gathering. I can share hundreds of stories, some funny, some sad, some adventurous, even some downright bizarre! I'd love to learn your stories too!
I love to cook, so let's swap recipes. Traditional and ethnic, to out of this world flavours - I want it all. In return, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I make a rather exceptional mango pie.
Most of all, lets share an experience! How else can one become friends, promote peace and understanding in the vast world of ours.
