About Me

I'm a confirmed artsy type and have worked in numerous fields (music production/performance, acting, filmmaking, and now animation and teaching), but love all the arts. I love looking at the world with fresh eyes, and rediscovering travel. I'm a fairly quiet person, but I love meeting people and getting to know their stories and personalities and what makes them tick. I'm a father of 4 awesome (somewhat) grown kids.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've only just discovered it recently, and I'm so excited by the possibilities for meeting genuine, local people from around the world, and sharing lives, stories, experiences, food, music, and seeing where the road leads us! I'm also working on an animation with a New Orleans flavour and would love to share ideas and get inspired by that amazing place and its people and culture. I'm hoping to help my son see the world in a new light and have his mind opened to the warm-hearted trust of the good people of the world, and look forward to hosting too when we can. I'm sure it will change both of our lives!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music and movies maker and fan. I don’t like to reject any genre particularly, but I lean towards the acoustic/folk/classical/jazz end of things. Wait! That’s not even an end, Stephen, what are you talking about?! But I’ve played and recorded so many different things I love looking for what’s special about what I haven’t heard before. Ok, The Milk Carton kids have been my crush his year, and CW Stoneking, well there’s a story for when we meet... Movies, again broad tastes, with a fondness for the bizarre and arty, the Coens, Edgar Wright, Wes Anderson, Hitchcock, Kurosawa—always learning and exploring whenever I get the chance. Books. Well my biggest weakness is Terry Pratchett. Read them all, but wouldn’t call myself a fantasy fan as such. Or am I? Douglas Adams, Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, Tolkien sure...but also love hunting for classic gems, mind=blown by Infinite Jest not long back. And non-fiction too, lifelong learner. Alain de Botton has tickled my brain cells a few times recently.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Toured around Australia performing live theatre.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach musical and artistic skills, depending on the specifics. I’m fairly focused on 3D animation and film making at the moment, so can certainly ramble on about that for hours if you’ll let me. I want to learn about you, catch a glimpse of your life and build some nice connections. Or some cool recipe, that’d be nice as well 🙂 Sharing stories, ideas, experiences, dreams and inspiration, sounds pretty good to me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m happy to cook and share—got a few tasty treats up my sleeve, but open to whatever’s most valuable, be it cleaning, chores, handyperson type stuff. Really hoping to do something useful. I can do a pretty decent espresso/cappuccino if you’ve got a machine too 😁
