About Me

I've been a full-time music teacher and performer since 1996. My main instrument is the mountain dulcimer. I typically work festivals and dulcimer clubs but occasional solo with orchestras around the country. I'm happy to give you a 5-minute dulcimer lesson. Just ask!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on the road about a third of the year. I often stay with friends or Airbnb hosts. I've been wanting to try Couchsurfing for many years but have never got around to it. I'm easy going, quiet, and clean. I want to help fellow travelers and make new friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite musicians are Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson, Billie Holiday, Frank Zappa, Pete Seeger, Ravi Shankar, Bela Fleck, Violent Femmes, Doc Watson, and Paul Simon. Favorite movies include The Matrix, Blade Runner, and anything with Clint Eastwood. Books I enjoy are the Bible, Born to Run, and Fahrenheit 451.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in 1997, I got to record, as dulcimer soloist, a concerto called Blackberry Winter, with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra on their Warner Classical release, Conversations in Silence.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach folks to play the mountain dulcimer, especially after they tell me it will be impossible. I LOVE learning new things from people who love what they do. I like to share anything with groups of people. I'm not into living in a cave by myself.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my music and my city. Just ask.
