About Me

Hi! I'm Stephen, from Montréal, Quebec, Canada. I'm 25, living and working in Berlin!

I'm a creative person at heart, and my biggest passions are writing, creating, designing and reading.

Looking to meet new people around the world, and discover new spots as I travel around Europe! I can't always host, but always down to meet new people. Will trade lessons in french for lessons in your language!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm trying out Couchsurfing because I hold a fundamental belief that the coolest part about travelling is meeting new people and holding shared experiences. In my minimal experience of travelling as part of a semi-touring band, I've found that the single best part about discovering a new city is discovering those who live there, their goodwill and their unique stories.

Plus, it would be cool to make new friends who live on the other side of the world, right??

Interests

My biggest passion is playing music; I write music both for my band as well as for myself. I love playing loud, abrasive punk rock and metal, but when I write for myself, I'm privy towards indie rock, experimental music and post punk. With my band I play guitar, and alone I can play bass, drums and some piano. I'd love to meet up and play music!!

With music, I've been able to play shows around Eastern Canada as well as the Northern United States, and we're currently working towards playing to as many new cities as possible.

Aside from music, I'm an avid reader. As I worked at a bookstore through college, my personal library is huge, and I'm always looking for new reads, and people to discuss them with. Some of my favourite authors include Haruki Murakami, Chris Ware and Michael Crichton.

Sports are cool too, I watch hockey and baseball, and I play both in my spare time.

My favourite movies are Superbad, Anchorman, Pulp Fiction, This is the End, Goodfellas, The Godfather and Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That time my band drove 9 hours in a snowstorm to play a show in someone's apartment in Rochester, New York to about 50 people we never met.

That time I got to record music at Arcade Fire's studio with their instruments.

That time I rode my bike 60 KM through southern Quebec after 5 years of not biking, just to see if I could.

That time the singer of my favourite band told me he really appreciated our music.

Dancing at a basement show with 60 other people to one of my favourite bands as the roof's support beam collapsed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to show any of my hosts the same hospitality they show me in Montreal. My city has so much to offer, and it would be only fair if I could repay their generosity with some of my own.

At the very least, I'd love to share some of my local culture, music and ideas with my hosts. Quebec has excellent foods, and it would be the best privilege to help prepare some in Europe.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can promise is that I'm a very clean, polite person. I can share the knowledge that inviting me into your household is a guarantee that I'll respect your living space, help in any way I can and leave everything the way it was when I got there.

I can also share the experiences of a 20-something french-Canadian who's a little too punk for business school, but might be a little too business for punk. Perhaps we can hang out and listen to our favourite records until the wee hours of the morning. Perhaps we can write songs or draw something or build something cool. Maybe we can drink bottles of wine on the balcony, or on some street, or bar, or whatever. Or maybe we can read my old marketing textbooks and come up with a high level corporate strategy and execution for a company that doesn't exist. I'm hoping to share a memorable time with anyone who'd live to share the same.
