About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Finish the Degree work, promote conversations about the Polycrisis, find a lot somewhere to park my tiny home trailer and build it.

ABOUT ME
This life has taught me to be spare with words, to trim thoughts to essential phrases. Give me a chance - such as this - and I might slip into long form prose. I can be poetic. But usually I just seek humor. It's a long history with many tumults, joys, pains, angers and loves. Details on request. I am usually compassionate, usually empathetic, serious but friendly, laugh easily, listen heart-fully, am passionate about economic justice and fairness, but not afraid to set boundaries for myself. 12 years have passed since these words and I have turned toward more concrete goals. I still have not partaken of psychedelics, and look forward to the mind opening of that experience.

PHILOSOPHY

All that is worth living for is given by others. All that is worth doing is given to others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I enjoyed a few visits and a few visitors, before couchsurfing fell apart for a few years and I got disconnected from it... I heard it's active again so when I needed a place to stay, I looked it up. I like the unpredictability of meeting someone I don't know. Unfortunately I can't host anyone at this time.

Participate in ...

LIFE: cultivate friendships, to learn, to have fun.

RELATIONSHIPS: by listening, sharing, responding, engaging, conflicting with love. Give what is needed.

COUCH SURFING: I attended the Degrowth (economics) Conference in Montreal, in 2012, with help of Couch Surf hosts. Since then I have been at University to study Ecological Economics and have attended many another conference!

CURRENT AVAILABILITY: I live with my wife who doesn't enjoy social novelty.

Interests

For most of my life I have struggled just to survive and see progress, to resist the enslavement of just-getting-by. Along the way I have read fiction, politics, economics, psychology, and sciences, and dawned slowly to realize how unkind we are to each other, and how unjust the fundamental systems of economics really are. Have been asking the really big question, What factors control the future of humanity? Would like to write a novel to address this question. Have been studying this question at University.

Music, Movies, and Books

Old list:
The evolution of Cooperation by Robert Axlerod.
Dr. Zhivago
Guns, Germs and Steel
Collapse, both by Jared Diamond
the Great Transformation by Karen Armstrong
Bruce Perry, and Van der Kolk, on Trauma.

New list: too long.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Awestruck by the trees in California. Outraged by Gaza blockade. Humbled and grateful for the gift my partner gave me last month (singing bowl). Accepted at the Master's Program, survived for four years.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am opinionated in the arena of writing - what is good and what is poor. But I respect every voice, and teach by offering ideas. I am opinionated in the area of how to live, but I have so much to learn I have only ideas to share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Thoughtfulness and conversation. Poetry.

Countries I’ve Visited
