About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make sure that if I settle down, it'll seem like an adventure since I've already done everything else.

ABOUT ME

I am a musician and a writer. I grew up in Virginia but have spent much of my time living in New England. I am currently dedicating all my time to writing and recording music (for myself and as a composer for Chicago theatre), and trying to live as poetic and adventurous a life as I can while I still can.

PHILOSOPHY

i know how easy it is to lose one's life, so i think it's important to throw myself into everything i can, to see what it feels like to be alive, i give everything i can, i love too much, and i survive with the help of those who love me--i live to make things better somehow, to create something beautiful, and without a sparkles in my eyes that come from the new and exciting, well, it all becomes boring. i can be entertained staring at ripples on a pond, and i sing when i walk.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I misread a train schedule in Stratford, UK, and missed the last train of the night after attending the theatre. So I walked a couple miles out of town and in the darkest streets found myself near some very drunk people, and they made me nervous, so I went and asked if I come along with them, maybe sleep in their garden, and they brought me home, gave me the largest beer I've ever seen, taught me all about the slugs that live on their walls, and let me sleep indoors! This was much better than the ditch I'd recently slept in as a result of misreading another train schedule (I've since changed all my clocks over to military time.) They seemed shocked to find me there in the morning, but they gave me tea and sent me on my way.

Interests

all things beautiful. english literature up through the modern era, the oxford english dictionary, french, all music, fashion, dressing up and going out, swimming, singing and barefoot and nighttime and dim lights.

Music, Movies, and Books

byron, shelley, henry miller, and anais nin are my favorites authors; i am currently fascinated by jacques brel, abba, and charlie parker. my favorite films are smiles of a summer night, belle de jour, jeux d'enfants.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

this is a difficult one, because i don't think it'd sound quite impressive if i discussed mountains or trains or rope bridges, so i suppose it's just this: i came back from death, so all the little things are quite spectacular to me now.

Teach, Learn, Share

i'm a musician, i spend up to 18 hours a day in studios, often coaching musicians and singers on their motives in this or that, finding new ways to describe what it is i need them to perform, in a way awakening sides of them they didn't know existed. i enjoy doing this. i'm also pretty decent at leading mind-reading exercises with groups. creepy!
