About Me

Hi surfers !

I was born and I spent most of my life in France, living in the countryside. 4 years ago I travelled to Portugal and decided to settle there for some time. I met my girlfriend here and also got my first jobs. I am a rather simple person that is nature-oriented and who has a vivid passion for arts and discovery in a more general sense. I dedicate my free time to my loved ones and I like to use the little time I have left to write stories or produce music. I don't like using etiquettes (labels). I like talking to strangers and bums. I feel myself closer to the working class folks rather than the corporate crowd. I like talking sociology and philosophy, but I honestly would talk about anything. Learning something new is what matters and what keep us moving forward.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I decided to use Couchsurfing because it is an unconventional way of travelling and a much more social option than going straight to the hotel. I also think it is the best option for travellers on a budget and it allows a broader crowd to travel and discover other places than the ones they see in their daily routine. Travels are necessary for self-development. I am eager to see as much as I can from this world and I am not a picky guy regarding accomodation. Also, I think it is much better to be in touch with locals when you are travelling to some place. I am not much into tourist attractions but more into the real life of people and what moves them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I will try to give names of art movements that influenced me as a creator and synthetize as much as possible :

Music : African Blues (Muddy Waters, Guitar Slim etc..), Jazz (Bop, Hard Bop, New-Orleans), Nashville Era (country, blues, gospel, rock'n roll), British (rock) Invasion (Led Zeppelin, Blind Faith etc..), Psychedelic Rock movement in america (Black Sabbath, Canned Heat, Jimi Hendrix etc..), Jazz Fusion/Electric Jazz (Miles Davis, Sun Ra, Herbie Hancock etc..), Grunge/Nu Metal (Alice in Chains, Paw, System of a Down etc..), Progressive Rock/Metal (Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater etc..), Hardcore Hip-Hop (90's/2000's)...

Books : I loved reading about the Beat Generation (On the Road, Dharma Buns, Desolation Angels from Jack Kerouac for example). Otherwise I like french writers like Voltaire (Lumières), Boris Vian (surrealism) and more modern stuff like Frederic Beigbeder (early 2000's nihilism/realism), Sylvain Tesson (travels, adventures). I like sociology books and controversial works, I will name "Outsiders" from Howard Becker as an example which is a good starting point for anyone.

Movies : I like cheesy movies that girls don't appreciate at all ahahah like Spinal Tap, Wayne's World, Tenacious D, Don't be a menace to South Central while drinking your juice etc.. Apart from that I like classic movies from Martin Scorcese, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, the Watchowski brothers, Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton etc.. Again, there is so much out there. For TV shows, the ones that come to my mind are Breaking Bad, Oz, Boardwalk Empire, Person of Interest, Scrubs, House M.D, Hellfjord and so on...

Teach, Learn, Share

I can give classes for basic (or more advanced) guitar / bass / drums techniques to hosts if they have music instruments at home. I travel light usually so I can't really carry instruments wherever I go.

As a french native I can teach some french words/sayings if the hosts are interested.

In a more general way I am opened to all kinds of conversations and debates.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am in for sharing with hosts if they have time to dedicate to that, of course.
It could be going out at night for a dinner, going to a concert, or really any spot of interest in the host's locality.
Staying at home to talk/watch a movie/play cards/"you name it" is also fine with me.
