About Me

I have traveled some, but not enough. I spent a few months abroad in late 2016 and saw about as many places as possible, in that time. I met new friends along the way, and I look forward to making more. I love languages (and I need to practice!). I enjoy experiencing different cultures, and trying new cuisines.

Ideally, I would like to find a city I like and a job so I can stay abroad. I would prefer not to return to the United States.

I lived in Brooklyn, NY since graduating from Michigan State University, in 2002 until I left to go travel in 2016. I now live in the Bronx, NY where I repair guitars and teach English as a Second Language.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing to meet new people in new places, while still being able to afford to travel.

Interests

I play the drums and the guitar, and I enjoy singing at every opportunity. I also regularly played ice hockey in New York City and in Brooklyn. I am finishing a science fiction novel that will be published next year by Inkshares. I've recently begun drawing again (I used to do it every day until my early 20s).

I am not academically fluent in Spanish, but I am conversationally proficient. I am learning French and German, concurrently, and I studied Arabic at Michigan State.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite types of music are rock and roll, blues, heavy metal, and classic country music, but I enjoy a lot of songs by artists from all genres.

I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately, including a book about the Russian Revolution in 1917, and one about the Utopian communities that temporarily arise in the wake of a disaster.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting Petra, in Jordan, on Christmas Day was pretty amazing. Hiking around Sintra, in Portugal, was mind-blowing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to help anyone improve their English, and I love to converse in Spanish, French, and German. I would be ecstatic to be able to practice my Arabic with someone. I wish for it to improve, but I think I've reached the limit of what I can teach myself.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook. I am outgoing and love to converse with people either in their language (if I speak it!) or my own. My English is quite good and I am happy to help anyone interested in improving theirs. I would love help with my Spanish, French, German, and/or Arabic, of course!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain
