About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have fun, meet people, travel and all that jazz...

Recently I returned home from a South American motorcycle adventure. Now I'm living in Leavenworth, WA (USA) overlooking an amazing valley, surrounded by trees and hillsides. I'm within walking distance of one of the largest Bavarian style villages in the US (about 20 minutes by foot through quite residential streets to the center).

LAST TRIP

From early 2017 to late 2018 I was on the road, traveling through Brazil, Argentina and Chile. While in Rio de Janeiro I overheard a guy at a hostel talking about driving to Sao Paulo to sell his motorcycle. My interest was peaked so I went out to have a look; later that week I bought the moto from him ... and life has been good ever since!

I didn't have much of a plan when I came to Rio on a one way ticket. I had been to Brazil the year prior for a short trip and just knew I wanted to come back to discover more of South America. Having the freedom of the motorcycle was incredible and gave me access to so many amazing places.

On this trip I had been working while I traveled - finding a place I enjoy and spending more time there getting to know the city and its people. In the past many of my trips were fast paced, jumping from one city to the next but on this occasion I took a slower approach and got a lot out of the experience.

While on the road I picked up a fair amount of Spanish, but as I had been working (in English) I had not been able to commit as much time as I'd like to studying español; my ability to speak Spanish is still pretty basic but with a patient speaker I can normally understand much of what is being said to me! I hope to meet some people through Couchsurfing with whom I can practice my Spanish and they can practice their English!

ABOUT ME

My main interest is travel and I have been fortunate to have spent a fair amount of time roaming the world; I've managed to visit over 30 countries across 6 continents now. I own a business which allows me the freedom to be mobile but I am looking forward to spending a bit more time at home. People would probably describe me as polite, genuinely nice, but with a bit of a colorful history and a propensity to attract trouble! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest which lends to my appreciation of the outdoors. As for family: my beautiful girlfriend lives in Chile but visits regularly and I keep close ties with my brother, his wife, my niece and my folks who all live nearby.

PHILOSOPHY

I thrive on new experiences and seeing new places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While living in Seattle I was able to host dozens of couchsurfers from around the world. Its been a fantastic way to meet people of varying cultures and backgrounds. I've gained some friends for life as a result!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I thought originally it might be a bit awkward to host or be hosted by a stranger, but I found the opposite to be true. All of my experiences through Couchsurfing have been great. What I've found is that the types of people using Couchsurfing are the types of people I like being around. It's great to come to a town and meet someone straight away that can give you some good tips on where to go and what to see ... or better yet join you for dinner, a drink or a night out on the town!

Interests

Some of my favorite activities include snowboarding, hiking, motorcycles (dirt and street), golfing, jogging and cycling.
