About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the world in four? five? six? OK ten years now! We keep extending!

ABOUT ME

We met in Central Bar, Leith, Edinburgh. We dated a couple of years and realised we had the same dream - to Tour the World. Both of us always wanted to travel, work and live in other countries, but didn't have anyone to do it with. When we met, everything fell right into place.
We decided we'd leave on November 20th 2006, and had to save up hard, so we both worked in two jobs, almost every day of the week. Then on May 6th - we had just climbed Scotland's (& UK's) highest mountain, Ben Nevis - Steve got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. By the time we climbed back down, we had the whole wedding planned. We decided to get married before traveling, and did so in Edinburgh on Oct 21, 2006.
Four weeks later we were on a plane to Cape Town, and so our journey began. Over 5 years later, we are still on the road, carrying with us amazing memories of Africa, Asia and Australia, and have an increasing hunger for more. The people we met, the places we saw, the wildlife we spotted and tracked, and the several near-death experiences we've had, have made us better people and we want to continue our World Tour until it's time to settle down back in Bonnie Scotland.

PHILOSOPHY

We believe everyone should live their dream. You CAN do it! If you are prepared to work hard, be open minded, ask questions and try new things, you can become who you want and live the way you choose. We are grateful every day for what we have and get a big kick out of planning our next adventure. It's sometimes scary, especially when you are reducing your comfortable apartment and great job to a 20kg backpack and a bunch of tickets, but we don't regret a single thing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are new to CS, but we love the idea of both surfing and hosting. We look forward to our first experiences in New Zealand in September 2011, Australia in October 2011 and south-east Asia in Nov 2011 to Feb 2012. We will definitely become hosts once we are settled (next working destination - Dubai). And we're BOTH house-trained :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We don't have any as such, but hope we get the opportunity to meet a lot of new people, and hope to return the favour, when we're living in another country (probably Dubai and Brazil), before settling back in Scotland.

Interests

We love wildlife, good food, people watching and meeting folks from all walks of life. Steve is a big fan of football/soccer and we both like rugby (and recently baseball) and also like fishing. Aneta busies herself with some creative writing as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

We like a variety of books, movies and music, but nothing too heavy - life's too short!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

If we must choose just one, it would be spending a few days in Varanasi, India. It is an eye-opening place that puts your life into a whole other perspective. We already agreed that if we fail miserably as parents and our kids (in the future, we don't have any yet) ever turn out to be spoiled brats, we are dumping them there for a couple of weeks, to teach them a lesson!

Teach, Learn, Share

Always listen to others, but at the end of the day, do what your gut tells you. No one knows better than you what makes you happy. Don't compare yourself to others - variety is the spice of life! If we were all the same, it would be a pretty boring world. Do what you love and feel comfortable doing. You can't go wrong following your own instincts.
