About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Urban Planner & Community Organizer

ABOUT ME

Friendly, sociable, happy, and like meeting new people. I am an urban planner, obsessed a bit with cities and how large numbers of people interact with their environment and with each other.

PHILOSOPHY

Say yes more often than no! (within reason, clearly)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing and hosting alike! Currently surfing for October 2014, but will host again as soon as I am back from my travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted several people now, had my first couch surfing adventure in Philadelphia in November 2010, and followed that up with a number of trips to the US, and most recently South Africa. I have met many wonderful local couchsurfers along the way, and I hope to continue periodically surfing and hosting.

Interests

Cycling, running, frizbee, urban planning, cooking, reading, traveling, being outside, flip flops, surfing, craft beer, gardening, urban exploring, silly dance parties, canning, swimming, skiing, coffee, dinosaurs, and meeting new people of course!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big music fan... things I like putting in my ears include: Radiohead, YT//ST, GY!BE, Braids, chvrches, Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Gillian Welch, Fuck Buttons, Robyn, the National, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Black Star, Beach House, CocoRosie, Japandroids, Arcade Fire, Fever Ray, Beirut, Blood Orange, Bonobo, James Blake, Patrick Watson, Think About Life, Deerhoof, PJ Harvey, Cloin Stetson, Mutual Benefit, Amon Tobin, Cinematic Orchestra, Die Antwoord, Savages, Grimes, Broken Social Scene, tUnE yards, Rhye

Books! Right now I'm reading Equilateral by Ken Kalfus, but I'm almost finished. Its really quite enjoyable and I recommend it! Next up on my reading list is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which is supposed to be good also so I'll have to report back...

TV – The Wire! Otherwise, I don’t watch much TV (and don’t have one anyway), but I will occasionally binge – I watched season 1 of Girls in a day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ummm...I have run several marathons and was in a bicycle race across part of South Africa, so I guess that is pretty cool. Also, I am currently one of three partners in an urban planning consultancy firm called Made in Montreal. Our mandate - promote local manufacturing, production and consumption as means to economic resiliency, green living and healthy communities.. we are currently making a documentary film!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about cities, and in particular, Montreal. I could easily do a guided tour of the city. In fact, I used to do guided running tours in Montreal. I won't charge for it this time...

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, France, Greece, Italy, Lesotho, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
