About Me

I asked a couple of my best friends to write about me

David:

"Steven treats even the most seemingly mundane moments with revelry and sacredness, and humor. A trip to the grocery store, a talk over tea, a day at the beach. All these things become epic gems of life. Steven listens, sings, and laughs in a way that makes simple moments crackly and spark with life. He's filled with awe and wonder for the natural and the supernatural world, and has an attitude of gratitude that's contagious."

Sarah:

Exuberant, inquisitive, brilliant, funny, silly, smiles and laughs lots!, sensitive, passionate, loyal, empathetic, vulnerable, courageous, uninhibited innovative and pioneering. He's one of the only people I've ever known who's always done everything he's ever wanted to do!

I would LOVE to be able to accept guests, but my current, quaint but quite tiny 1 room cabin in the city doesn't really afford me the hosting capacity :-(
(but it's REALLY neat-0 - there's an outhouse made of straw bale walls and a compost toilet and a shower. The inside kitchen sink and outdoor shower pan both drain into an underground cistern and the water is pumped to the garden/earthscape. ;-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I genuinely enjoy meeting people in a land/place-based, cross-cultural connection kind of a context, and learning about their lives, lifestyles and perspectives. There is something (and often a lot!) to learn from everyone. ...For many years of my 20s I traveled the world and often used Servas International - Peace and understanding through travel and hosting - and had all sorts of spectacular experiences! Couch surfing is, in many ways, the 21st century Servas!

At this time in my life, in a Northern California context, I'm "couch surfing" because I sometimes work far from my home in Santa Monica, in Sonoma County on farmlands making (Biodynamic ~ beyond organic ;-) compost, for a couple days to a couple weeks at a time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I transformed my childhood home's backyard in West Los Angeles from a shaded field of weeds and 50 foot trees into a sun-soaked urban mini-farm. Although I had a grand vision, in my wildest dreams, I never would have guessed I'd be on the path I'm cultivating today~
