About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I wrote this profile in 2008, with:
"Get some money together, get back on the road."
Today I'm married and thinking about kids. Its so weird!
I write for a living, and make art and music on the side. I still think about getting some money together, (now I comprehend why it isn't happening haha), and still hazard getting back on the road-- just now I do it with folk I love. We live for our adventures, and our missions are mutual ones.
ABOUT ME
This one has stood the test of time, eight years now:
I want to see and do everything, be everywhere and meet everyone. Usually that results in comedy, strange stories and lots of semi-drunk digressions on books, music, politics and humans. I write a lot. I also love black labradors, music in languages i don't yet speak, kebab and whatever you will manage to interest me in.
PHILOSOPHY
And therefore Crates replied to the man who asked, "What will be in it for me after I become a philosopher?" "You will be able," he said, "to open your wallet easily and with your hand scoop out and dispense lavishly instead of, as you do now, squirming and hesitating and trembling like those with paralyzed hands. Rather, if the wallet is full, that is how you will view it; and if you see that it is empty, you will not be distressed. And once you have elected to use the money, you will easily be able to do so; and if you have none, you will not yearn for it, but you will live satisfied with what you have, not desiring what you do not have nor displeased with whatever comes your way."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Once it was
"Inviting endless strangers into my home and turning them into friends, spreading the CS Word in the pubs of pricey-hostel Paris, grim LA, the streets of wider Europe and the occasional meet&greet when I've got the pep and dinero, and/or using infinte CS stories as the world's greatest leftfield ice-breaker at parties"
Now, it's mostly: I go to rare couchsurfing social events, (especially language exchange themes), proselytize the root couch surfing concept endlessly in conversation, and sometimes host when I can swing the space and free time at home. (Must Love Cats). I nearly never travel via CS any longer, but try to keep passing the torch.
Maybe someday wifely and I will mix up an impromptu artists tour via the CS route?
In any case, I got that super fancy pioneer badge on my profile now, when I lose all my hair that oughta sustain me haha.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
tons of hosting, ton o traveling, picnics and soirees etc
Interests
Folk music, artists, musicians, restless youth&semiyouth&oldfolkwithyounghearts, bohemians and the like.
I really like folk who dig Making Things themselves, rather than merely consuming them. Not just DIY or practical crafts and foodstuffs, but all the arts, the community, the art of making something explode out of an empty night, or making a scene out of a quiet barn.
I also like nerds who live to read and like to validate artists. We need you!

Music, Movies, and Books
If you are a reader than ask me, i am the worst.
if not, i promise i won't bore you w/ the details
I'll keep this eight year old appraisal of my interests while I first started traveling as a goofy sort of shrine:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Big Lebowski, Black Books, Arizona Dream.
The Pogues, runrig, The Gotan Project, Goran Bregovic, Kinky, Eastern Blok, The Dropkick Murphys, The Modena City Ramblers, JaniS Joplin, de Andre, Bright Eyes, Antibalas, The Band, Tupac, noir desir, Tomte, Faithless, Adjabel, Kings of Convenience, Manu Chao, Balkan Beat Box and then everything else with a good backbeat!
In short, I might have said "well, I like to meet other dogs." Rain dogs!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hang w/ Yetti.
that isn't, entirely, true.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'll teach you to play folk guitar. I'll cook you... coffee? I'll recount the whole cultural history of western civilization in ten minutes. I'll charm you with my un-everyday Americanism ism. And many other such exhilarating parlor tricks.
What I Can Share with Hosts
What can't I share with hosts? You can't have my customized mug.
Short of that, we'll be thick as thieves.
