About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Just be one of the good guys.

ABOUT ME
I like learning about other people's points of view. It may seem like you're being interviewed sometimes, but it's probably because I'm learning something cool. Since I've been doing that for 31 years now, I've learned some pretty neat things from people that are fun to share!

I'm a teacher at a Nature School and love my job. I get to go hiking every morning, teach super fun creative classes and encourage kids to see how cool it is for us organisms to have a habitable biosphere. Before that I was a travelling science teacher for this company that gave me boxes of science stuff and sent me around the San Francisco Bay area to teach all sorts of classes. I wore a lab coat so there was zero doubt I was the real deal.

I've played hockey since I was 5 and still love it to this day. I'm also all about game nights. If you have a board game, it's likely I've played before.

Traveling is just part of my life now. I work seasonally and have my housing provided by my job, so half the year I am just wide open. The thrill of hotels, tours, sightseeing and whatever else is on the pamphlet is gone. I want to know people. That's why I love couchsurfing.

Also, I'm a vegetarian. I only mention that because so many amazingly generous CSers have prepared a delicious looking meat dish that I can't eat :(. I get sick, so that isn't fun for anyone. I would never expect you to cook for me of course, but I've decided to put this in my profile because so many CSers are the type of lovely people who do!

PHILOSOPHY
Set high standards and minimize my hypocrisy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have definitely surfed a lot more than I have hosted, however I have had the pleasure of returning the favor for 3 of my hosts. If the day comes where I have my own apartment, I will be one of those superhosts who takes people in like crazy.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've been fortunate to have all excellent couch surfing hosts; including mostly male ones! When people who don't get what CS is say "Isn't it dangerous?" The CS community rarely fails to deliver wonderful, optimistic people. That rocks and gives me hope for humanity.

There has been an influx in recent years of male hosts who have hosted a lot, but for some reason, I can't imagine why, have 30+ references from only females and are never able to host me! Bad luck I guess...

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I like anything done by Inarritu, Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino. Aside from that: Catch Me If You Can, American Psycho, Seaching For Bobby Fischer, The Usual Suspects, Dumb and Dumber, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Hero, The East, Short Term 12, any awesome 80s movie where Stallone, Van Damme or somebody kicks a lot of ass

Current Music Favorites: Hamilton soundtrack!, Santana, Pearl Jam, R.E.M, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Rush, Roosevelt, Phoenix, reggae and jazz are always nice

Books: Eve's Mission, The Magic of Reality, George Orwell, Hunger Games, Brave New World, Malcolm Gladwell, The Circle, Freakonomics/Superfreakonomics...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wrote a book!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: Let's see...Ice skating/roller blading, hockey, the rules to American Football, parkour, slacklining, rock climbing, science, chess, frisbee, nature/survival stuff(teach that too!), the political reality show that is the United States

I want to learn:
What is going on with the general public?

I can share: I always travel with chocolate. Besides that, I can share my whole awesomely deep typical backpacker philosophy on everything of course! But seriously, I have a comprehensive framework for my dream society and will get down to the adjusted marginal tax rates if you're into it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My favorite part of traveling is the people. I love the hiking and seeing crazy stuff, but when my friends and family ask about my trips, it's the people I tell stories about. Hopefully we can give each other a story to tell!

Also, if you have a few fun friends, I will run the most fun game night you've ever had! All I need is some paper and pens...
