About Me

I live in a central location in Frankfurt and nowa days I am quite occupied with work and doing some almost professional amateur boxing on the side. It's been 12 years and it sure seems like a lifetime ago that I have travelled around the world for about two years. Back then I was living out of a car and used Couchsurfing so much. Being back here, living a so called normal life, I started hosting as well.

Unfortunately, I recent years my Couchsurfing activity has declined a lot. From guest perspective this was due to insufficient holidays ;-) From host perspective it was mainly because of too many "spam like" requests.

Anyway, now, for the first time in a long time I have a rather long vacation planned and would love to give it another go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started couchsurfing roughly 12 years ago when I was doing a Working Holiday in Canada. Being on a rather tight budget it was all about saving some money at first. However, it turned out to be so much more...

Meeting so many great people with such different background would have never happened traveling the "traditional" way and staying in hotels. Especially hanging out, going to local bars, getting local insider tips on outdoor activities...

Now, being back in Frankfurt, working a full time job, I cannot travel that much anymore. But, with hosting travellers it has become quite easy to feel the travel experience at home :-)

Interests

Travelling: I have travelled quite a bit so far but I can't seem to stop. Anyway, I guess thats why we are all here :-)

Sports: I am an (almost professional;) ) boxer. So I spend some time in boxing gyms doing that. While on vacation I love to surf, snowboard, mountain climb and dive a little bit.

Last but not least and in constant conflict with my athletic career: Food and beer. I enjoy cooking, almost as much as eating. Especially into all sorts of low carb recipes - something I stared doing long before it was fashionable. The most common "cheat" on this diet is beer. I love a good craft beer or anything rather hoppy in flavour.

Music, Movies, and Books

All sorts of music like country, rock or even latino. I like going to concerts but even more live music pubs with regional bands and flair. So, any suggestions, even if you decline my request, are welcome :-)

Back in the days I watched too many TV Shows... Finally managed to get rid of the binge watching habit... If I had to name a favorite it would probably be little house on the prary. And yes, I am serious.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some highlights were
- Lava in Hawaii
- Northern lights in Alaska and Canada

But usually it isn't about the highlight itself, is it?

The Lava in Hawaii we did a 16 mile night hike spontaneously without sufficient water supply, hiking shoes or a flash light. Luckily it was a full moon. After we returned to the car at 4a.m. we gulped down litres of water and tossed our shoes into the next bin.

About the northern lights we had heard a rumor that they do come closer if you whistle. And if you do whistle too hard they are coming to get you. Because, due to some old belief they are the spirits of the dead. Anyway, after seeing the northern light for the first time ever up in Alaska, just whistling for fun and to proof them wrong... Boy, were we scared when that light actually came closer.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always down for exciting outdoor adventures or learning new sports. I do like to cook, especially low carb things. Would be happy to prep some meal together and share some stories over a cold drink.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing travel experiences over a cold beer or a cup of coffee. I also enjoy cooking and/or going out to eat. So I’d be happy to do either of that in return for letting me stay.
