About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Re acclimatise back into society after seven years travelling. It's not easy.

ABOUT ME

I like stuff. Stuff and things. Whatdoyoucallthems are quite good as well. Mostly stuff...

I'm a guy. As you can see. I did train as an actor in the wonderful city of Glasgow, but I found out that I wasn't any good. Then I was a homeless support worker. I wasn't homeless, I supported people who were. I was technically homeless by choice for 7 years as I wandered the globe, but now I'm settled in Zagreb, Croatia.

After the passing of my wonderful parents and faithful family hound, I booked a one-way ticket to San Francisco in 2011. 65 countries later I got tired.

I have a twin sister in London and numerous ramshackle acquaintances scattered around the planet. We shall call these people 'friends'.

I sometimes update my travel journal with witty escapades. www.lookingforstu.com

I'm a total nerd, I try to play the guitar badly in an attempt to impress girls and I like a drink.

Did I mention I like a drink?

Everyone should watch Bojack Horseman.

PHILOSOPHY

It's all about the experience. We get one kick at the ball, I don't intend to waste it. But let's put our cards on the table. I'm not one of those wishy-washy, bed-wetting, hippy traveler types you see so much of on here. Long term travel isn't easy. It's not all flowers and rainbows as some would have you perceive. I tell it like it is and I'm allergic to bullshit. This might be why I'm staunchly anti-religious, so don't even try any of that utter shite with me, it's high time we confined that archaic paranoia to the past where it belongs. I can be cynical, bitter and twisted and for the most part I'm a misanthrope. I prefer animals. But I'm a nice guy - honest! :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Spare room with single bed possibly available in the centre of Zagreb if someone were to require it. Depends if you ask nice and you're not a murderer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In all honesty I much prefer to host. With surfing there's always a pressure to get along and you're still somewhat treading on eggshells. I don't really like having to ask if I can go to the bathroom and if I pee standing up I get my one negative review for it...

As the old adage goes; you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Staying in hostels affords you the chance to meet many more travelers anyway, and thus increasing the likelihood of lasting connections. Having said that, CSing has its place, but as you can see I've hosted a lot and surfed a little. I think that's all about to change.

Interests

Films, music, playing guitar, travel, books, reading and writing poetry, writing in general, getting drunk in a park, partying with a load of people I don't know, sport, (Liverpool FC) throwing shapes to some dirty techno while completely hammered...the usual suspects really...oh and stuff. I like stuff.

Hedonism and debauchery. The two finest words in the English language.

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many to mention. Would take me too long and I can't be bothered. Quick sample, three of each...

Withnail and I
The Wicker Man
LA Confidential

Elbow
Radiohead
The Stone Roses

His Dark Materials trilogy
Anything by Shakespeare
Shantaram

Any kind of music except for country and Rnb. Oh and the horrible squeaky voiced nonsense you hear chavs playing on the back of buses.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wrote a triple platinum selling album and had a four-way with Eva Green, Zooey Deschanel and Gemma Arterton - while Johnny Depp watched.

Wait that's five things.

And maybe it was a dream.

Hitchhiking from Germany to Cambodia was pretty special. Going through Iran was incredible too. Other than that, hiking to Machu Picchu is definitely up there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Don't judge people. Say please and thank you. Believe in yourself and others. Smile. Laugh. Don't take things too seriously. If you're homophobic, racist, bigoted or nationalist you're no friend of mine. Cook and eat lots. When you peel an onion, to stop the tears, put a spoon in your mouth. Hand sanitiser cleans Chuck Taylor converse to shine like new. Never lead with the queen pawn. I dream of a world without borders, and I'm not wearing any underwear.
