ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Richard. I'm generally pretty excited about life. I like to make music and movies and animations and things. I really like travelling, and I try to do it when I have breaks from school. Schoolwise- I'm studying as an Art major at Yale, and I focus on documentary filmmaking and stop-motion animation mainly. Lately I've been really deep into documentary - making one, and also watching a ton. I'm working on the 2012 Environmental Film Festival at Yale, helping to sort through films and curate the festival. It's really a cool event to work on. In general, I think stimulating world-conscious thought and action through art is kind of one of the best things ever.I write songs too and sing and play in a couple of bands: The Willow & The Builder, and Stray Balloon. The Willow & The Builder just released our first album online for free, and it seems things are going well.Basically, I love to meet people and learn. I think process is more important than product.
PHILOSOPHY
to get as much as possible from every moment i'm alive - and to help others to do so, too.
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I went with my former girlfriend Clementine all over Spain in July and August of 2010. We spent time in Madrid and Barcelona, and we also stayed on a couple small farms in Catalunya and did the HelpX thing. We had an amazing time with our CS hosts, and it really allowed us to see Spain through local eyes. Right now as a student in Connecticut, I'm just looking to surf because I don't quite have a place of my own to host. But as soon as I do after college... I can't wait to open up my home.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
As I mentioned above, I surfed in Spain and it was a fantastic experience. Our hosts were so hospitable and relaxed. One of our hosts gave us a truly underground experience of Madrid - brought us to art collectives and houses that we never would have found otherwise. It really showed me why CS is the way to visit a city. I haven't surfed in the US yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.
Interessen
making music (guitar piano and singing!); making films (animations and documentary); eating from the earth - I like to call it a plant-strong diet. I try to eat (and cook) as organic and local and vegan as possible - I also often foray into the world of raw food... I love art of all kinds - I love seeing and experiencing all kinds of expressive work; I've got this website that has a lot of my music and work on it - might give a glimpse at some of the things I'm interested in: www.richardmiron.com

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
The sunrise from atop Mt. Fuji in Japan.
Lehren, lernen, teilen
A few things I think a lot about are animation, documentaries, music, puppetry, animal-human relationships, environmental things - what the future of the world is looking like. skills i have: I kind of know how to sew actually. I play guitar and piano and I sing and once I played a french horn. i know a lot of software for making animation and movies, and I also took an ornithology class once and hopefully I still remember a bit about the evolutionary biology of birds.what I want to learn: new instruments, actual sewing/crocheting/arts and crafts in general, new languages, new raw/vegan recipes, new games (card games? i only know a few), skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding... local city trivia, coolspots, history. I don't quite know everything I don't know, and I'm open.
