About Me

I'm a positive, extroverted people-person. I've worked for eight years as a professional tour guide and storyteller. This means that I get paid to go on road trips with awesome people from all over the world.

I used to be a professional photographer and still enjoy taking creative photographs. These days I'm getting into video and enjoying the creative differences. Most of my photography work involved photographing people. What can I say, I'm a friendly people person.

I also do youth work work each year for a 'Rites of Passage' organisation. I lead the team that is in charge of the young men. 'Rites of passage' basically involves role modeling positive traits with a group of teen boys. It is a powerful way to mark the change from being and thinking of ones self as a boy and stepping up into responsibility in life as a man. Sounds heavy but really it's a lot of fun. Ask me more if you are interested.

I spent much of my 20's doing whitewater kayaking. In summer it's still an important part of my life. I also do a partner dance called Ceroc which is a simplified swing dance that borrows moves from all dance styles.

I'm currently working on a business idea in the tourism industry and am testing a prototype software tool that I created to verify the concept. If what i just said made on sense to you - that's OK. There is plenty more that we can talk about I'm sure.

Mostly though, I love to travel and meet people from different cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet new and interesting people. I also love to travel. Let's face it, if i were to stay in traditional accommodation i would not meet locals. With couch surfing i get to immerse myself in the culture a little more and make some friends at the same time.

I also know that I have been enriched by meeting people from different cultures around the world and I'm happy contribute to the worlds culture by.... basically sleeping on your couch. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. ;)

Interests

People, communication, storytelling, road trips, whitewater kayaking, photography, the arts, funky dance moves, fun, laughter, travel, entrepreneurialism (Can't spell that word no matter how hard i try), food - (I'm a foodie), yoga, stimulating open minded discussion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saved a man's life once at extreme risk to my own. I still feel responsible for him to this day. Luckily he is making me proud.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm about to spend some time in San Francisco doing a facilitation training course which is designed to help those who want to make a positive impact on the world to have a larger and more positive impact.

It's exciting stuff. I'll tell you more when I'm sitting on your couch. ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I bring great stories, a positive outlook and am an extreme version of the outgoing friendly New Zealand 'Kiwi' guy. As a tour guide I have extensive social experience and know how to fit in and be a great host.

Having played the role of host so much, it sure makes it easier to be a great guest.
