About Me
It's tough to explain your personality, so what I'll say is, I'm really interested in people, and big ideas. This website's been pretty good to me on both counts.
In the last few years I've held a dizzying array of jobs, some of which relate to film and politics, which are probably my two areas of expertise. At the moment I write a short weekly feature on international politics and macroeconomics, and also do coverage of novels and screenplays for a film production company.
I came to Europe to be a "bridesman" at my friend's wedding a few weeks ago, and now I'm bumming around a bit.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Mostly I really want to meet you, and your friends, and see what life feels like in your town.
I think I'm pretty good at adapting to the rhthym of whoever's hosting me. If you're too busy to hang out, that's completely fine - I can absolutely keep myself occupied, and I'll be a model (and very grateful) houseguest. But if you're able, I'd love to spend time together.
Interests
Most of my interests are pretty social science-y. By virtue of my job (and various compulsions), I know the political situation in just about every country in the developed world. I used to be really into the day to day back and forth of political systems, but now I mostly focus on structural issues. If you'd like, I'll talk your ear off about politics, but I won't force it on you.
Broadly speaking, I'm also into history, film, futurism, and figuring out why people do what they do, especially in groups.
Lately I'm really into in 3D printers, and how distributed manufacturing could upend existing economic power relations.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like folk music and electro-funk, but really I'm down for whatever.
Mostly I read non-fiction, so my fiction choices are pretty convetional. So, Nabakov, Kurt Vonnegut, and lately anything by George Saunders.
Historically, my favorite films are Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Happiness, but I'll watch anything from Battleship Potemkin to Jurrasic Park.
TV-wise, I'd never enter into a coalition government with someone who hadn't seen The Wire.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This used to ask for three things, and mine were:
Watching the moonrise over Shenandoah National Park
Swimming in the holiest fountain in Istanbul
Rouge taxidermy
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always happy to share everything I know about the above interests, and I'm equally thrilled to hear about whatever you find interesting.
