About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the rich diversity of our World, learn from new cultures, and help Earth's people however way I can.

ABOUT ME

By nature I am an explorer eager to venture out into new territory to enrich myself with the uniqueness each culture represents. I want to hear, smell and see all that which this world has to offer. My success is measured by new friendships, new knowledge and the beautiful sights and memories I capture with my camera. Growing up in both San Francisco and New York City, I am accustomed to and welcoming of the diverse population I encounter and befriend. One day I might be celebrating Purim with a Jewish friend, the next I'm stuffing my face with homemade Colombian cuisine while Latin music brings the night alive. When I meet someone of foreign birth, I ask about how life was in their homeland seeking to understand their cultural perspectives. My favorite channel to watch is National Geographic for the eye opening journalism it provides on the natural world. I also love meeting new people, especially like minded travelers who want to see the world and aren't afraid to try new things.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we are living in a society today that is increasingly globalized where everyone no matter your language or background is connected through some sort of economic or political arm. The problems of the 21st century must be approached not only domestically but with an international emphasis. I believe that in order to save the world's population at a time where Earth's resources are running dry and debt is on the rise, we must work together and put aside our political differences for the common good of all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I am a student with a part time waiter job at a Japanese restaurant, I am most proud of my volunteer work at the Greater New York Red Cross chapter. I work in Disaster Planning & Response as a first responder to habitat evacuations, fires and floods. We are on call 24/7 and will arrive after the Fire department to assess the damage and provide short term housing and financial support to those in need. It is very much adventurous because each case is unique and one must always prepare himself to changing circumstances.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a newbie to couchsurfing and am excited to use this platform. It will help me explore and meet wonderful people for sure.

Interests

Exploration, Adventure, Knowledge, and Experiences are my main ones. I like to skateboard with an emphasis on speed and exercise, as well as other adrenaline pumping sports. I love art of all kinds and sometimes I'll start a project of my own. I love taking photography wherever I go, where I capture beautiful scenery, nature, the people and other aspects of culture. Most of my reading is in newspaper articles with an economic, political and social emphasis.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On my last day in a small suburb in Tokyo Japan, I grabbed my skateboard and without much direction, skated around the perimeter of the city taking photos of the local landmarks as the sunset's orange glow made them visible. I remember feeling invincible, free to go where I want and having this extra energy and stamina boosted by my eagerness to explore.

Teach, Learn, Share

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee

"We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them." - Buddha

"And so I stand among you as one that offers a small message of hope, that first, there are always people who dare to seek on the margin of society, who are not dependent on social acceptance, not dependent on social routine, and prefer a kind of free-floating existence" - Thomas Merton
